ou should have.” I said.

“I know.” He said.

For the first time in a long while, I didn’t feel angry. The resentment that had followed me for

months simply wasn’t there anymore.

Maybe it had disappeared somewhere between rebuilding motorcycles, finding Diesel and building a life that no longer revolved around people who refused to change.

“I forgive you.” I said.

“You do?” He asked.

“I do.” I said and relief flashed across his face. He smiled for only a second before I continued.

“That doesn’t mean I want you back.” I said and the smile faded again, although this time he

nodded almost immediately.

“I know. I wouldn’t deserve another chance.” He said.

“This isn’t about deserving. It’s about moving forward. My future doesn’t include going backward.” I said and I kept my voice gentle and he accepted the answer with far more grace than I expected.

“I understand.” He said.

“I hope you find somebody who makes you happy.” I said.

“I think I’ve got enough work to do on myself first.” He said and I smiled faintly.

“That’s probably a good place to start.” I said and he laughed quietly.

“I figured you’d say something like that.” He said.

The conversation should have ended there. Instead, Tyler glanced over his shoulder once more

and his expression changed.

“There is something else.” He said and the shift in his tone immediately caught my attention.

“What is it?” I asked.

“I don’t know exactly what’s happening.” He said.

“Then tell me what you do know.” I said and he lowered his voice.

“Charlotte’s been meeting people.” He said.

“What people?” I said.

don’t know. Men. They’re not from around town.” He said.

“How often?” I asked..

“More than once. I followed her one night because something felt off.” He said and his eyes searched mine.

“What did you see?” I asked.

Clan

“She met two motorcycles outside an old warehouse near the industrial district.” He said and my stomach tightened.

“Did you recognize them?” I asked but he shook his head.

“They weren’t wearing club colors.” He said.

“But they weren’t locals.” I said.

“They didn’t look like businessmen.” He hesitated.

The uneasy feeling I’d been carrying since Diesel growled outside the garage returned

immediately.

“Did Charlotte see you?” I asked.

“No.” He said.

“You didn’t tell anyone else?” I asked.

“You’re the first.” He said and I studied him for several long seconds. Whether he realized it or not, Tyler wasn’t trying to create drama. He looked genuinely worried.

“Thank you.” I said.

“I wasn’t sure you’d believe me.” He said.

“I do.” I said and he nodded once.

“I thought you should know.” He said.

We stood in silence for another moment before Tyler took a step backward.

“I’ll stay out of your life from now on.” He said.

“I think that’s for the best.” I said.

“I hope you’re happy, Paige.” He said and I looked toward the Iron Vipers laughing together beside

the trailer, then down at Diesel sitting patiently against my leg.
