Chapter 109

Nicole held back her frustration as she walked into the kitchen, slipped on a pair of gloves, and started washing the dishes and cleaning up.
She hadn’t done this kind of work in ages, and her mind was elsewhere, so she accidentally broke two bowls.
The viewers watching were left speechless once again.
If Nicole had just admitted she couldn’t cook, like Alicia did, no one would have thought anything of it.
But she insisted she could cook, even volunteered to do it, acting like she was some kind of pro.
She went from struggling through a tough childhood to suddenly becoming a pampered heiress, so everyone thought maybe she’d be good at cooking. But wow, nobody saw this disaster coming.
But come on, she broke down and cried three times just making a meal. Who wouldn’t lose it watching that?
After the other three headed out, one of the crew members mentioned that Nicole was crying again.
They were all thinking the same thing: thank goodness they’d gotten out of there fast enough.
As for comforting her? Not a single one of them even thought about it.
Caleb and Nicolas were honestly just getting tired of how much Nicole was crying.
Before this, Nicole didn’t cry nearly as often. Usually, she’d only get upset if she felt wronged or didn’t get what she wanted.
Or sometimes after an argument with Alicia.
Usually, it was just once a week, or sometimes every ten days, half a month, or even once a month.
That was when they could actually muster up the patience to comfort her.
But now, with her breaking down several times a day, it was just getting on their nerves.
They’d been running around and working all day, already dead tired. Who had the energy left to play babysitter?
Nicole only ever cried about her own problems-did she ever stop to think about anyone else?
She used to be so thoughtful back at home, so why was she acting so spoiled and unreasonable out here?
Over on the other team, after they finished eating, Alicia waved Hannah off, telling her to go relax while they handled the
mess.
The way the two teams got along was worlds apart.
Once both teams had finished eating and were pretty much done resting, the production team called everyone out to the yard.
By then, it was already getting dark, and the yard was lit up with lanterns.
Once everyone had taken their seats, the lights from the lanterns cast a warm glow across the yard.
The host flashed a smile at the group and announced, “Okay, for today’s challenge, you four teams were competing to see

who could collect the most ingredients.
It’s pretty obvious-Team Two and Team Four clinched the win.”

He turned to Nicolas and the others, grinning, “Which means you two teams have a little penalty coming your way. Time to play some Truth or Dare!
According to a rule suggested by our viewers, the winning teams get to throw whatever questions they want at the losing teams—and you guys have to spill the truth, no dodging!”
Nicolas shrugged. “Fair’s fair. Let’s do it.”
Man, I really hope Alicia asks me who I’m into, Nicolas thought to himself.
The other three didn’t have any objections either.
Nicole figured Alicia and probably one of the others would try to put her on the spot with their questions.
But she wasn’t bothered-since everyone was supposed to be honest on the surface, she had nothing to worry about.
Besides, who’s really going to know if I’m telling the truth or not?’ Nicole thought to herself.
Thinking that, she nodded and agreed to go along with the Truth challenge as her penalty.
The production team rolled out a machine and set it up right in the middle of the group.
The host said. “This is a lie detector. The losing teams have to wear it while answering questions.”
Nicolas and the other two looked totally unfazed, but Nicole’s face stiffened just a bit.
Is it too late to back out now?’ Nicole wondered.
But clearly, it was too late. This was the rule everyone had agreed to earlier that day.
The four players from each team lined up on either side of the lie detector, sitting face-to-face.
The host grinned, “The winners get to point to anyone on the losing side and ask them anything they want.
“And whoever gets picked has to answer-no dodging, you gotta spill the truth.
Landon asked, “Can we just pick one person to ask?”
The host replied, “Sure, but once you’ve picked someone and asked your question, you can’t choose anyone else from the losing team.
Landon nodded. “All right, got it.”
He asked again, “So, can I go first?”
The host glanced at Marley, who nodded, then smiled. “Alright, Mr. Hayes, you go first. Who do you want to ask?”
He scanned the four people sitting across from him, then his gaze landed on Nicolas. “I’ll go with Mr. Moore.”
The crew quickly strapped the lie detector onto Nicolas.
Nicolas looked totally unfazed. “Go ahead, shoot.”

Landon asked, “You say Alicia’s the only one you like, but whenever there was conflict between her and Nicole, you always seemed to side with Nicole.
“So, does that mean you’ve actually got feelings for Nicole? You’re just not willing to admit it, right?”
As soon as the question was out, everyone turned to Nicolas, ready for some drama, all eyes glued to him like they were waiting for the show to start.
The viewers were eating it up, loving how spicy Landon’s question was.
Nicolas always said he only liked Alicia, and just saw Nicole as a little sister.
But was that really all there was to it? Did he actually have feelings for Nicole?
With the lie detector right there, if Nicolas tried to lie, it’d call him out. So everyone was on the edge of their seats, waiting to see what he’d say.
Even Nicole was starting to feel a little nervous, hoping Nicolas would finally reveal what he truly felt deep down.
She’d always believed that, no matter what, she had a place in Nicolas’s heart.
Even if he liked Alicia more, Nicole was sure she still mattered to him.
As for why Alicia was his favorite, well, they’d grown up together and spent way more time with each other than he ever did with Nicole.
And let’s not forget, Alicia used to hold six percent of the Hammond family shares-that was a huge bonus in her favor.
If Nicole had all those advantages, she was certain Nicolas would definitely choose her over anyone else.
And if Nicolas admitted he had feelings for her, it would totally make those haters eat their words.
It would also put Alicia in a pretty awkward spot.
Nicolas flashed a smile and said, “Alicia’s the only one in my heart. There’s no Nicole in there at all.”
After he answered, the lie detector stayed silent.
That proved he wasn’t lying-Alicia really was the only one in his heart, and he didn’t have any feelings for Nicole, not even a little.
His answer really caught a lot of people off guard.
After all, with the way he was always treating Nicole before, everyone figured he had a thing for her.
Who could’ve guessed it’d end up like this?
Nicole’s face went even paler, her eyes full of shock and disbelief.
‘Nicolas doesn’t have any feelings for me at all? No way, that can’t be true!’ Nicole thought, her brain short-circuiting.
‘Come on, this lie detector has to be broken, right?’ she muttered to herself, refusing to accept it.
Alicia’s fans and a bunch of viewers couldn’t help but clap back at Nicole’s fans, who’d been jumping up and down hyping her up before.

‘The guy Nicole’s been pining after for years? Turns out he doesn’t have even a shred of feeling for her.
‘Honestly, you can’t help but laugh at that.
‘Nicole must be dying of embarrassment sitting there!

Nicole was dying of embarrassment, her thoughts all over the place and her heart aching so much she could barely breathe.
Her eyes grew red and watery, and she was on the verge of tears-just like always.
But she was afraid that if she really broke down, it’d be even more humiliating, so she just bit her lip and tried her best to keep it together.
Next, Simon and Hannah tossed a couple of questions to Caleb and Jett.
The questions weren’t anything juicy-just some casual stuff about music and directing work.
Both of them were pretty laid-back, just here for the gossip and snacks, not the type to stir up drama.
After they answered, the lie detector stayed quiet, just like before.
Finally, it was Alicia’s turn to ask a question.
She looked straight at Nicole, who was clearly on the verge of tears but doing her best not to break down, and asked directly. “Nicole, do you hate me?”
Jason only brought the lie detector for one reason-Nicole. Obviously, it was meant just for her.
