Rising From Betrayal Reborn As The Family Outcast novel Chapter 113

Chapter 113

Nicolas and Caleb, hiding behind the bushes, were completely stunned.

They never expected to come back and stumble upon a scene like this.

The kicker was, they were actually involved in this whole mess.

They’d only decided to come back on a whim, so there was no way Jason could’ve timed it just for them to watch.

Once Alicia and Jason went into the yard, Nicolas and Caleb finally came out from behind the bushes.

Nicolas didn’t even have time to be jealous of Jason right now.

His face looked awful. “Did Jason just mean that my manager and assistant are both somehow involved with Nicole?”

Caleb snapped out of it. “If I got it right, yeah, that’s what he was getting at.

“And not just yours-mine too.

“And Jason cut himself off. Who knows, maybe it’s not just us-maybe my brother and his people too.”

Nicolas thought it over. “I always felt like something was off, but now I finally get it.”

Caleb looked at him. “What was off?”

Nicolas took a deep breath. “There were a bunch of times when Nicole would just somehow pop up wherever I was.

“Especially those two times I got hurt on set-she was always the first to show up and check on me.

“And every time Alicia and I had a fight, Nicole would always reach out, showing she cared.

“Compared to her, Alicia just seemed less concerned about me, almost distant.”

He’d had a few fights and cold spells with Alicia, honestly because he felt like she didn’t care about him the way she used to.

Like when he got hurt, Nicole would always be the first to show up and check on him.

But Alicia only came to see him after he told her himself.

But now, thinking it over, he realized-how did Nicole always manage to show up at just the right time?

Once or twice, maybe it was just a coincidence. But after so many times, there was no way it was just luck.

Unless someone close to him was tipping her off.

He’d never really suspected his manager or assistant before.

Sure, sometimes they’d put in a good word for Nicole, but they’d also try to stop him from fighting with Alicia.

Caleb sucked in a sharp breath. “Nicole’s plotting goes this deep?

“She even managed to buy off people around us to spy on our every move?

“Honestly, I never thought about it before, but now that you say it, I’ve run into a bunch of those ‘coincidences’ myself.”

PUN

He’d definitely gotten caught up in Nicole’s little setups more times than he cared to admit.

This was just crazy. Their assistants were supposed to be like family-people they trusted with everything.

They pretty much handed everything over to their assistants, hardly ever keeping anything from them.

If Nicole really bought them off, she’d know their every move-it’d be like having zero privacy at all.

Nicolas narrowed his eyes dangerously. Tm calling my manager and assistant, asking them to look into Nicole.

“If what they dig up doesn’t match up with what my mom found, and they’re obviously trying to hide stuff for Nicole, then it’s clear they’ve been bought.

You should try to sound out your assistant too.

He paused, then added. Tll also ask my mom to help me check if there’s anything fishy going on with my manager and

assistant.

His assistant was someone he’d picked out before he even entered the industry-super versatile, could handle anything.

Even if he ever left showbiz, he was planning to bring his assistant into the Moore Group.

But if Nicole really bought them off and kept leaking his whereabouts and personal info, that was way too dangerous

Who’s to say some other enemy couldn’t just buy them off too and sell him out completely?

Caleb nodded. That’s exactly what I was thinking.

Guys like them couldn’t stand it when the people closest to them got bought off.

On top of that, he also called Kevin and Austin separately.

He filled them in on what Jason and Nicole talked about, reminding them to check out their own crew and see if anyone around them was acting shady.

Kevin hung up the phone, a chill running down his spine.

If his assistant or secretary had been bought off too, then Nicole and her mom were seriously scary.

As the heir to the Hammond Group, this was his worst nightmare.

He pulled a few sheets of paper out of his drawer-this was the info his assistant had dug up on Nicole and her mom.

From what he could see, they’d definitely done some stuff to his sister, but it all seemed to revolve around Alicia. There was nothing in there that tied them to him or the Hammond family.

Other than that, the file was mostly about all the hardships Nicole and her mom went through back at their old place.

He tapped his fingers on the desk. If his assistant was compromised, then this whole report was just painting Nicole and her mom as the poor, pitiful victims.

And the fact that Nicole had it out for his sister-judging by recent events, that was definitely true.

So his assistant probably just scratched the surface and kept the real stuff under wraps.

When he got this file today, it all seemed way too basic, almost like something was missing.

Back then, he didn’t suspect his assistant was shady-he just thought they weren’t exactly a pro when it came to investigations.

He’d even considered having them dig a little deeper, or shelling out for a specialist to do the job. But now, with everything that’s come to light, that plan was off the table.

After mulling it over, he told his secretary to look into it instead.

At the same time, he hit up a friend to help him find a private investigator who really knew their stuff, someone who could get to the bottom of things.

Alicia wheeled Jason into his room.

Since he had trouble getting around, the production team had put him up on the first floor.

He needed a round of acupuncture tonight, but the herbal baths were finally off the schedule.

As Alicia worked on the acupuncture, Jason filled her in on his conversation with Nicole.

He added, “Nicolas and Caleb should’ve heard everything.”

Alicia let out a soft laugh. “Talk about perfect timing.”

“Even if they missed it, I’d make sure they found out about their assistants sooner or later.

“But having them witness Nicole trying to set you up, and then bolting when you exposed her-that’s way more convincing.”

Even if she cut all ties with the Hammonds, Nicole and her mom were still on her hit list.

She was determined to make the people Nicole and her mom had won over turn against them, so they’d get a taste of their own medicine.

Of course, Nicole and her mom weren’t about to let her off the hook either.

So when it came to them, nobody was pulling their punches.

Jason said, “I’ve been keeping an eye on Kevin’s assistant, and the background check he did on Nicole was suspicious-he skipped over a lot of key details.

“I’m pretty sure Kevin’s finally going to uncover some real dirt now.”

He let out a sigh. “But seriously, Nicole and her mom are on another level-they’ve got almost everyone around them in their pocket.”

That just goes to show, you can never really trust anyone.

Especially people like Nicole and her mom, who seem like total pushovers. Underestimating them is just asking for trouble.

The Hammonds and the others probably figured those two couldn’t get by without their help, thought they were weak and dependent.

So they never took them seriously, never thought they could be a threat.

That’s how you end up with your own trusted people getting turned against you.

Alicia thought it over. “Yeah, I never expected them to be so good at getting people on their side.”

Back in her previous life, she did find out that Nicolas’s manager had a lot of contact with Nicole-there was definitely something shady there.

But she never caught on that even Kevin’s assistant had been compromised.

That only came to light because Jason had someone keeping an eye on Kevin’s assistant.

Alicia couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Could the two of them really pull something like this off on their own?’

She knew she’d been set up before, but whenever she tried to fight back, there was always some kind of obstacle or interference.

Or something unexpected would always crop up, giving Nicole and her mom a way out.

Now that she thought about it, maybe those “accidents” from her past life weren’t accidents at all.
