Chapter 125
Jett’s face broke into a wide grin.
He let out a sigh. “All these years, and you’re the only one who ever saw through me.”
It was a relief that only Alicia had figured out he was just putting on an act.

Alicia had pieced it together bit by bit, drawing on what she remembered from her previous life and watching Jett’s actions this time around.
Alicia glanced at Jett. “We don’t have much time. I’ll keep asking, you keep answering.”
The crew was probably already coming down the slope to rescue them-she needed to get her questions in before they showed up.
Jett nodded. “Alright, ask away.”
Alicia asked, “Is someone keeping an eye on you?”
‘Otherwise, you wouldn’t have deliberately fallen down the slope to avoid the cameras and everyone else,’ she thought.
Jett nodded. “Yes.”
They continued their rapid-fire Q&A.
“Was that person put there by the miracle doctor?” Alicia asked.
“Yes,” Jett replied.
“Is there some kind of connection between Nicole and the miracle doctor?” Alicia pressed.
“I have no idea,” Jett replied.
“Has Nicole ever met or talked with the miracle doctor in private?”
“Not as far as I’m aware.”
“So Nicole has no idea the miracle doctor is looking out for her behind the scenes?”
“Exactly.”
“Was it the miracle doctor who hinted you should drug me earlier?”
“Yes.”
“Did you get close to me just so I’d save you?”
“Yes.”
“You really hate that miracle doctor, don’t you?”
Word is, the miracle doctor cured Jett’s autism-but honestly, who’d ever want their mind messed with and be controlled like that?

A flash of viciousness flickered in Jett’s eyes. “Of course.”
“Do you know anything about the miracle doctor’s background?”
Jett replied, “All I know is he comes from a hidden family of legendary healers. That’s about it.”

That wasn’t off-limits or anything-plenty of people in the circle already knew about that part of his background.
Alicia figured the miracle doctor would never let Jett know the real story.
She asked, “Can you get in touch with the miracle doctor anytime you want?”
Jett shook his head. “Nope, it’s actually pretty hard to find him most of the time.
“He’s always the one who gets in touch with me first.
“And there’s no set schedule-sometimes it’s ten days, sometimes a couple weeks, sometimes even a few months. The longest I ever went without hearing from him was an entire year.”
Alicia thought that kind of unpredictable timing really fit the vibe of those hidden traditional medicine clans.
She remembered her grandpa saying those families loved to keep to themselves, always holed up doing their own research and barely ever dealing with outsiders.
Their kids hardly ever left home, and even if they did, they couldn’t stay out for long-they always had to head back before too much time passed.
No wonder the miracle doctor was so insanely skilled and a total eccentric-coming from a family like that, it actually explained a lot.
But Alicia still couldn’t figure out why the miracle doctor wanted Jett to protect Nicole.
And why keep Nicole in the dark about it?
‘What’s the real connection between the miracle doctor and Nicole, anyway?’ Alicia wondered.
Alicia asked, “So nobody else knows about this except you two?”
Jett replied, “Well, now you’re in on it too.”
Alicia had nothing left to ask.
She picked up the sound of footsteps coming from far away.
She quickly pulled the acupuncture needles out of Jett and stashed them away. “Can I tell Jason about this?
“I need him to look into the miracle doctor for me,” she said.
Jason had a crack team of investigators he’d personally trained for stuff like this.
Jett shot her a knowing look. “Whatever you want. Still, you and Jason seem pretty close these days.
“If I’m not mistaken, you two used to be at odds, right?”
Alicia just shrugged. “Well, I used to be part of the Hammond family, but now we’re basically strangers. Same thing.”

Jett chuckled. “You’ve got a point.”
Alicia leaned in and whispered, “He drugged you so he could use mind control on you.
“Give me some of your blood-I’ll take it back and work on an antidote.
“Once I have the antidote, you take it and the mind control will break automatically.
“But it’ll take some time.

“And I need to figure out his connection to Nicole. If I break the control now, he’ll get suspicious. So you’ll have to hang in there a bit longer.”
Jett held out his hand to Alicia again. “Go ahead, take it.
“It’s fine. I’ve waited this long, what’s a little more time?”
He let out a cold laugh. “Honestly, I just want to finish him off for good.”
Alicia nodded. If she were in his place, there’s no way she’d let him get away with it. Revenge was non-negotiable.
She always had some supplies on her whenever she stepped out-just in case.
She grabbed a sturdy needle, jabbed it into his fingertip, squeezed out a few drops of blood into an empty vial, sealed it tight, and tucked it away.
She could hear the footsteps getting closer.
They both dropped the subject, working together seamlessly, without needing to say a word.
The crew finally found them, and when they saw neither of them was seriously hurt, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
“Are you two alright?” one of them asked.
Alicia stood up and rubbed her arm. “My legs and arms are a bit sore from the fall, but I’m fine otherwise.”
She only had a few scrapes on her exposed arms.
Jett had scrapes on his hands and feet, and he was still limping a bit as he walked.
“I’m fine too,” he said.
Marley wasn’t taking any chances-he called the crew and told them to make sure Alicia and Jett got down the mountain safely and take them to the hospital just in case.
Alicia and Jett didn’t object-they’d already gotten what they wanted today.
Back at the hospital, Mrs. Moore walked in through the doors.
Mr. Moore glanced over and asked, “Did you find them?”
Mrs. Moore looked worried. “No, I couldn’t find them. They said no one’s picking up, so we’ll just have to wait.”
She told her husband everything she’d found out in Greenpeak Village.

Mr. Moore frowned. “How much longer do we have to wait?”
But worrying wouldn’t help if they couldn’t get through to anyone anyway.
He asked. “Did you manage to get the evidence?”
Mrs. Moore nodded. “Yeah, I got everything.”

Her trip to Greenpeak Village wasn’t just about getting Nicole to spill who mixed the drugs-she was also there to dig up proof that Nicole had drugged her son.
She managed to get her hands on the bottle Nicole had tossed, with Nicole’s fingerprints on it.
Before she even started talking to Nicole, she’d already slipped a recorder into her bag.
Nicole admitted to drugging her son, explained how she tried to blame Jett, and everything Jett said was recorded too.
She’d also made a copy of the video from her son’s livestream that night.
She let out a cold snort. “If I didn’t need to figure out who actually mixed the drugs, I would’ve had Nicole locked up already.”
Nicole wanted to be a rich heiress or a wealthy wife, huh?
She’d just love to see which respectable family would ever let someone with a criminal record like Nicole marry into their family.
Right now, she was holding back only because she still hoped her son could be cured.
Everyone in their circle knew Jett was head over heels for Nicole, and he could get whatever he wanted from her.
Plus, Jett was the one who gave her the drugs. If she went to the cops about Nicole, Jett would get caught up in it too.
It wasn’t that she was afraid of Jett’s family, but she worried that if she reported it now, she’d never find out who actually mixed the drugs.
If that happened, her son’s last hope would be gone for good.
But no matter what-whether she found out who mixed the drugs or not, whether her son ever got better or not-Nicole was never getting away with it.
If she managed to track down the person who mixed the drugs and her son got back to normal, she’d let Jett off the hook.
But if she couldn’t find the culprit, or if her son never recovered, Jett wouldn’t get away with it either.
Mr. Moore nodded. “Hang on to the evidence. We might need it later.”
Just then, Mrs. Moore got a message from the person keeping tabs on Nicole.
She frowned. “Nicole quit the show and flew back to the city by herself.
“She didn’t even wait for Jett-just left him behind.”
She turned to her husband. “Looks like we need to make sure she doesn’t slip away.”
Mr. Moore caught on instantly. He whipped out his phone and started making calls to set things up.

Nicole stepped off the plane and headed for the parking lot, looking for the Hammond family’s driver.

But out of nowhere, a few bodyguards surrounded her and “invited” her to stay at the Moore family’s hotel.
They didn’t take her phone or say she couldn’t leave, but Nicole was too scared to step outside. She could only call her mom for help.
Meanwhile, Mavis was still at the hotel, her face swollen and bruised from the beating. She hadn’t gone back to the city yet- she was waiting until she healed up first.
When she got Nicole’s message, she immediately called her husband for help, unable to hold back her worry.
