Rogue Tide, Clean Heart novel Chapter 7

Downstairs, Yanet was still trying to figure out how the high-tech appliances worked.

She heard the front door unlock. Poking her head out curiously, she saw a middle-aged woman standing in the entryway holding several grocery bags. The woman wore a neat dress, possessed a warm, round face, and had a naturally comforting smile. "Good morning, Mrs. Jamieson. I'm Yula. I've taken care of Mr. Jamieson since he was a boy."

"Hi, Yula," Yanet greeted politely.

Yula's smile deepened, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "My goodness, Mrs. Jamieson, you are absolutely stunning. It's blistering hot outside, but just looking at you is like a breath of fresh air. I don't quite know how to say it, but you just look incredibly elegant."

Yanet wasn't used to such blunt, enthusiastic compliments. She was quickly learning that the Jamieson household was full of people who spoke exactly what was on their minds, but never in a way that made her uncomfortable.

"What do you usually like for breakfast? Or you can just write me a list," Yula offered, blending her natural warmth with total professionalism as she ushered Yanet toward the living room to relax.

Yanet used the opportunity to start looking for Molly so she could feed her.

"I need things that are highly nutritious but low in calories."

"Any allergies or foods you can't stand?"

"I don't eat fish."

"Perfect. I'll steam some grains and boil a few eggs, and maybe toss together a light salad for you. Do you drink coffee in the mornings?"

"Whatever is easiest," Yanet replied. "Fresh juice is fine, too."

"You got it. Just give me a few minutes."

Having a housekeeper definitely made things easier, but the Royal Crest Estate was massive. Trying to find a cat that was busy exploring its new territory was proving to be a challenge.

When Barrett came down the stairs, the first thing he saw was Yanet kneeling on the floor, peering under the furniture.

Her waist dipped into a jaw-dropping curve, showing off her slender, athletic build. While she was thin, she wasn't fragile; her body was toned and perfectly proportioned.

"Couldn't find the cat, so you decided to turn into one?"

The man's teasing voice echoed through the room. Yanet whipped her head around and saw him standing on the landing. The morning sunlight poured through the massive windows behind him. Given his height and the fact that he was looking down at her from the stairs, Yanet suddenly felt incredibly awkward about her current position.

"It's a new environment. I think she's a little stressed out."
