Chapter 90: Why her?

Dante’s pov

I looked at Jade who was sleeping naked next to me.

This woman, I would die for her and after touching her I know I can’t touch another.

I might have forgiven my father for what he did but I don’t want to repeat his mistakes.

I want to make sure that everything is clear.

“Onyx, do you agree with my decision?” I asked my wolf.

“Yes, this time I don’t have any objections. Do what you must,” he said and I sighed.

“Can I ask you? You have never showed yourself to anyone before. Hell, even my family doesn’t know you. Why did you show yourself to Jade?” I asked him.

I could feel him looking at Jade as I asked him this.

“Because it’s her, I feel a strong connection towards her,” he answered and I scoffed.

“Where was that connection when you tried to kill her?” I asked him.

“Well, it was driving me crazy and I couldn’t figure it out. I didn’t understand why she had such an effect on both of us. You know how much I hate being out of control,” he answered.

“But what we are about to do, it’s the opposite of everything you have ever wanted,” I reminded

him.

“I know that, but I don’t care. She is worth everything and more. Things are different now,” he

answered and I smiled.

Who knew that this stubborn wolf would be like this now?

A few months ago he was singing a different tune.

“I told you to eat before we left, but you don’t listen do you?” I asked Piers who just smiled.

“Come on Dante, you and I are not just Alpha and second in command. We are also friends,” he

said and I looked at him confused.

“Since when are you second in command?” I asked him and he sighed.

“Felix isn’t around, so I am,” he pointed out.

We sat down and I suddenly caught a faint scent.

“What is wrong?” he asked me and I just shrugged.

“I think I caught a different faint scent,” I answered him and looked around.

The scent started getting stronger and a woman with brown hair was passing by.

“Mate, that is our mate,” Onyx said and I quickly got up.

“Excuse me miss,” I said and the woman turned around to look at me.

A witch, “she is a witch, wouldn’t that be bad for us?” I asked Onyx.

“Remember our promise? She is our mate, we are supposed to spend the rest of our lives together with her,” he reminded me and I sighed.

We promised each other after that man left our mother that we wouldn’t do the same.

That we would never do such an injustice to our mate or anyone else.

“Can I help you?” the witch asked and I looked at her confused.

She is a witch but can’t seem to sense that I am a werewolf.

“My name is Dante Odell, can we talk privately?” I asked her and she looked at her friend and then

back at me.

“Okay,” she said and we sat down at a table.

“It appears that you are my mate,” I informed her and watched how her eyes widened.

“You are a werewolf?” she asked me and I nodded.

“I am your mate, what does that mean?” she asked me.

“Well, it means that if you are willing then you and I can be together. You will be my mate and the

Luna of my pack,” I said.

She looked at me shocked for a second.

“Did you just say, Luna? So you are an Alpha?” she asked me and I nodded.

“You can think about it, I know that it is a lot to digest,” I said and she shook her head.

“No, let’s do it,” she answered right away and I looked at her confused.

“Don’t you want to think about it? You don’t even know me,” I pointed out and she smiled.

“You and I are destined to be together. I don’t think the universe would do any injustice,” she said

“By the way, I am Sasha Bennett,” she said holding out her hand.

“Did you just say Bennett? As in the most powerful family of witches?” I asked her and she nodded.

“Yes, My Mom is the Coven leader Samantha Hale. But now she uses Bennett which is my father’s last name,” she explained and I nodded.

“That is just amazing, would your family be open to an alliance?” I asked her and she smiled.

“Yes, it is why I agreed. My mother has been looking for people to form relationships with. I agreed for my Coven,” she said and I nodded.

“Well that is good, then it would be easier to explain this,” I said.

“Well, I should tell you this now. You are my mate, but I can’t guarantee you that I will fall in love with you. I can guarantee you protection and freedom but not love,” I explained to her.

“I told you, I am doing this for my Coven as well. It is okay if you won’t love me,” she said with a gentle smile.

She understands and is ready to fulfil her duties as a Luna.

And this marriage would also help me create an alliance with the witches.

This would make our Pack even much stronger, such an alliance would benefit all of us.

“Great then, and there is something I want you to know as well,” I said and she looked at me.

“If ever you want to walk away let me know. If this mate bond becomes somewhat of a burden to you, just let me know right away and I will set you free,” I informed her.

End of flashback

“Call us when you get there,” Mom said to Alec who nodded.

“Dad, I will come over and visit too very soon. Plus we are planning a wedding soon, just wait for the invitation,” Tia said as she hugged our father.

Alec is leaving with him since it’s the school holidays he just wanted to visit him.

He wants to get to know him better since he is the only one who does.

Nick will be joining him soon but he won’t stay long.

I looked at Dad and realized that he was right.

Someone always gets their heart broken but I do hope that things work out smoothly in our case.

They drove off after we all said our goodbyes and I looked at Sasha.

“Can we talk?” I asked her and she nodded at this.

I walked towards my office and a few seconds later she joined me.

I sat down and she sat down as well and I watched how she seemed confused and scared.

“You do remember what I told you when we met?” I asked her and she nodded.

“Yes, you told me that you aren’t sure if you will ever love me,” she said and I sighed.

“You are a beautiful woman, who is smart and also gentle. I thought that those attributes of yours would make me fall in love and that it was only a matter of time before it happened,” I said and

watched her frown.

“But?” she asked me and I looked down.

“Now I know for certain that it can never happen. I will never fall in love with you,” I said directly.

“You will never fall in love with me? You weren’t sure before, why are you so sure now?” she asked

me with tears in her eyes.

“Because I have fallen in love with someone else. I am in love with Jade,” I answered and watched

how she got up.

“Aren’t you ashamed? I am your mate and Jade is my younger sister. Don’t you feel even the tiniest bit of guilt for saying these words?” she asked me.

I didn’t answer, I understood that she was angry and felt hurt.

“Why her? Why not me? What does she have that I don’t? Why does she get the flowers and the love that I deserve?” she asked me.

I didn’t answer and just let her express herself.

“Is it because I can’t give you a child?” she asked me and I shook my head.

“No, it has nothing to do with that. Nothing at all,” I answered and she scoffed at this.

“Then why? Do her lips taste sweeter than mine? Is it the brown eyes because I can wear contacts? Or is it the short hair? I can cut mine too, just tell me why her and not me?” she asked

“I wish I could answer that, but even I don’t have an answer to that,” I answered.

I watched as different emotions passed through her.

“Why are you telling me this?” she asked suddenly calm.

I was about to answer but she suddenly started laughing.

“Is it so I can give you and my little sister space? Are you telling me this so I can leave and the two of you can live together happily ever after?” she asked me.

“That won’t happen, I am your mate and Luna. I am not going anywhere, and I won’t forgive this

insult,” she said and then walked off.

That aura around her was more than the anger of a scorned woman.

There was more to it, was Vanessa right?
