Chapter 128 I Hate You Seeing Me Cry

Tears streamed down Stella’s cheeks nonstop. Just stop. Can you not understand what I’m saying?

Nadia spoke in a pitiful, pleading tone. I cannot bear to watch you be treated this way. It hurts to see Mr. Jasper Campbell take her side even after you’ve been harmed. No one cares for you the way I do.”

Stella looked up at Jasper with tearblurred eyes.

Just leave, Jasper, she whispered weakly. I have nothing left to say. I’ve already told you I don’t hold this incident against anyone. Let it all stay in the past. I wasn’t hurt too badly, after all.

Her fragile, sorrowful look pulled at the heartstrings.

If Jasper had not made that chicken soup with his own hands, he would have rushed to comfort her right

away.

But he was the one who prepared the soup, and he could not bring himself to offer empty words of comfort.

Should I tell them the truth? That Margaret never made this soup at all?

He wondered how they would react if he spoke up.

The words lingered on his tongue, yet he could not force them out.

Nadia sank to her knees beside the bed, and the pair looked utterly helpless and wronged, as if they had suffered an unspeakable injustice.

A sudden realization washed over Jasper. Stella had always been this way.

She twisted every small slight into a great grievance.

Whenever conflict involved Margaret, she acted gently, yielding, and wronged, drawing everyone’s sympathy without fail.

Margaret’s warning echoed sharply in his mind.

Tell her the soup was made by me, and you will learn the truth?

Did she see all this coming long before it happened?

Has Stella slandered and framed Margaret like this countless times before?

Is that really slander?

Could the soup have been unclean because of my own carelessness?

Yet he knew the truth. He had cooked the chicken soup entirely by himselfno other servant had touched it. He’d even added gentle healing herbs to the broth.

He’d tasted a few sips right after it was done, with no stomach pain or discomfort at all.

From start to finish, no outsider had come near the soup. Only his personal attendant had carried it.

And that loyal servant would never dare poison Stella.

One fact remained undeniablethe soup had never once passed through Margaret’s hands.

There was no possible way she’d laced it with anything harmful.

Please don’t cry, Stella,Jasper said quietly.

His comfort made Stella break down into loud, helpless sobs.

Jasper, why are you still here?she asked. Leave me be. I hate you seeing me cry. I don’t want you to think I’m always whining. I’m only hurting inside. You can ignore me. Just go.”

Nadia’s eyes turned red with anger and sorrow. Believe Ms. Campbell if you wish, Mr. Jasper Campbell. All evidence is gone now. We drank the soup, and we have no way to prove a thing. As Ms. Stella Campbell said, let this be forgotten. This is far from the first unfair loss she’s endured.

The two sat with red, swollen eyes, their tearful expressions painting them as innocent victims.

Jasper stood a short distance away, his face dark and troubled. If there truly was something harmful in that soup, I will make sure justice is served.

I know you still care for Ms. Stella Campbell,Nadia said. She cannot stand even the smallest pain. This stomach sickness left her in terrible agony.”

Her voice cracked with grief. I would take her suffering in her place if I could. Yet we have no choice but to swallow this unfair loss..

Stella spoke in a frail tone. The pain is gone now, Jasper. Let’s go dine with Father and forget all of this.

She rose unsteadily from the bed, her posture heavy with sorrow.

You look far too worn out,Jasper replied. Rest and fix your appearance first. I will head over ahead of you,”

With that, he turned and walked away without a single backward glance,
