Chapter 186
It was a shame Ms. Angler left us to our own devices for so much of class because she was a great teacher. She explained things in a way that was easy to understand and remember. We went through everything she thought I needed the most help on, and by the time we were done, I felt loads better.
She checked her watch. “It’s later than I anticipated. You better get going, and I need to get to an appointment.”
“Thank you so much for all of your help. I really appreciate it.”
She patted my shoulder. “Anytime, Senna.”
I gathered my book and notebook and headed for the door. The main overhead lights had been turned off, so only the overnight emergency ones still glowed. It cast the hallway in an ominous glow. I picked up my pace as I hurried for my locker.
Spinning the dial in my combination, I tugged it open. As I reached for my backpack, footsteps sounded behind me. I started to turn, but before I could get a good look at whoever it was, a fist shot out, cracking across my temple. Pain bloomed and the world went sideways.
The blow made my brain ricochet around in my head. Everything went blurry with the force of it. I struggled to straighten, only to be greeted with a hard shove back into the lockers.
The face that came into view was one dripping with menace. “It’s time for you to learn some manners.”
I blinked a few times, bringing Chris‘ face into focus. Shit.
He charged towards me, but I darted out of his way, anger bubbling to the surface. I was so sick of people trying to use their strength to keep others down. To try to force me to go along with whatever they thought I should do.
Chris lunged and I gave a swift kick to his side. He grunted but quickly straightened. He grinned, but it was a twisted expression. “Did Anson tell you I study martial arts? Got my brown belt last week.”
Double shit.I rolled to the balls of my feet as my head throbbed. My hands went up, guarding my face the way Anson and Knox had taught me.
Chris threw a palm strike at my chest. I deflected the worst of it, but he made enough contact to steal the breath from my lungs. I coughed as I straightened, and Chris laughed. He rounded with a kick that caught me in my side, but I used the opening to land a hard punch to his kidney.
He let out a string of expletives as he charged again. Chris might’ve had the size, but I had the speed. The combination of my small stature and shifter quickness helped me evade his next several blows.
“What the hell is wrong with you and your psycho girlfriend? Your obsession is getting a little old.”

Redness crept up Chris‘ neck and into his face. “Don’t talk about Sadie like that.”
He let another palm strike fly, but I dodged it easily. His anger made him sloppy.
“I’m only calling it like I see it. She’s begging Anson to come over for dinner, following me around like a rabid puppy, convincing you I’m the spawn of Satan–what would you call it?”
Chris‘ steps faltered for a moment. “She didn’t ask Anson to come over.”
God, this guy had a screw loose. That was all he picked up from what I’d said? “Ask anyone in our astronomy class. She wouldn’t give it up until he said he wanted nothing to do with her. A real winner of a girlfriend you’ve got
there.”
It was the wrong thing to say. Rage blasted through Chris, propelling him forward into a roundhouse kick. I did my best to deflect, but it sent me stumbling back into the lockers, the breath knocked out of me.
Before I could right myself, Chris grabbed me by the hair, pulling me to a standing position. “She warned me about you. How you can convince anyone of your lies.”
“I’m not lying,” I gritted out. “You know it.”
“I know that you spread your legs to get people on your side.” He moved his face in close. “Maybe it’s time I see what all the fuss is about.”
My stomach roiled, nausea sweeping through me. My knee came up on instinct and connected with Chris‘ groin in a
hard blow.
He let out a strangled sound, his grip on my hair loosening. I didn’t waste a second. My hand struck out in a palm
strike to his nose.
Chris cried out as blood spurted. He gripped his face. “What the fuck?”
Rage coursed through me. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
