Screw My Childhood Sweetheart His Alpha Brother Marked Me First novel Chapter 56

I tugged my legs to my chest and watched the water swirl, a kaleidoscope of colors. It was exactly how I pictured my grief, an angry mix of so many things. I’m sorry, Lace,I whispered into the wind. You’ll never know how much.

A low growl sounded, and I froze. The fine hairs on the back of my arms stood on end as I slowly raised my eyes. There, on the opposite side of the creek, was a wolf.

It didn’t look anything like the wolves in my dream. This one had his teeth bared and saliva dripping from them. His coloring was different too, a mix of browns.

Shit, shit, shit. Was I supposed to freeze or run? I’d never taken the time to research wolves like I’d told myself I would.

Senna!

Vaughn’s deep, familiar voice cut through the forest. He broke through the trees just as the wolf let another vicious growl free, his muscles bunching. Get behind me,Vaughn barked.

I scrambled back. Wwhat are you going to do? Do you have bear spray or something?

Vaughn didn’t answer or look my way; instead, he kept his gaze focused on the wolf. You’re trespassing on Ridgewood Pack lands. Leave now, and there won’t be repercussions.

The brown wolf snarled, gnashing his teeth at Vaughn.

I don’t think he understands English, Vaughn.

The wolf paced back and forth on the other side of the creek.

Go home, Senna.

I’m not leaving you here with a rabid wolf and nothing to defend yourself with.

Senna,he growled. Go.

The wolf paused, its gaze going from Vaughn to me and back again. Then its muscles bunched and it sprung, leaping across

the creek.

I screamed, the sound echoing off the trees around us. Vaughn, run

He didn’t run. He tossed his head to the side in an unnatural movement, and then there was no longer a man standing on the creek bankthere was a wolf. The same black wolf with the tuft of white on its chest from my dream.

The brown wolf lunged.

The air in my lungs seized as the brown wolf sank its teeth into Vaughn’s flank. Vaughn. The iceblue eyes were the same, but he wasn’t a man anymore. He was a wolf.

Chapter 56

My breaths came faster as the two wolves tumbled. Vaughn raked his claws across the other wolf’s chest, making him howl. Instead of backing off, the wolf charged again, sending Vaughn flying.

As Vaughn tumbled into a roll, the wolf’s head swiveled towards me. I swore there was a glint in his eyes as he did. I scrambled backwards until my back hit a tree. My hands frantically searched the ground for anything to defend myself with.

My palm landed on a stick, and I grabbed hold, swinging it out in front of me. Back off.

The wolf let out a low growl, but it was cut off as Vaughn slammed into him, taking him to the ground. Something had snapped in my black wolf, snarls splitting the air as he tore into the brown wolf.

The brown wolf refused to submit, sinking its teeth into Vaughn’s shoulder. I cried out as blood dripped from his wound. I pushed to my feet, tightening my hold on the stick and moving towards the fray. I wouldn’t let Vaughn be seriously hurt, not because he was trying to defend me.

The fight was pure chaos and trying to find an opening to help was nearly impossible. But I braced myself, waiting. The brown wolf reared up on its hind legs. My opening. I swung the stick with everything I had in me, the wood cracking as it hit the wolf’s spine.

He let out a howl, coming down hard and kicking back with his legs. They connected with my stomach, sending me crashing into a tree just as a voice yelled from the woods.

Senna!Anson called.

Help Vaughn!I cried, my voice cracking on the words.

Knox and Anson came through the woods first, Riverand Caspian on their heels.

Knox took in the situation, and in a blink, he was gone, a golden wolf in his place. He snarled, leaping on the brown wolf’s back as he tried to charge Vaughn again.

Anson’s clothes ripped to shreds as he transformed from human into a wolf with a mix of black and gray fur. He let out a deafening howl.
