Separate Weddings, Separate Lives novel Chapter 51

"Elijah, are you schizophrenic?"

He only married her to get revenge, but he was now talking about staying married forever. Louisa was starting to think that he was actually mentally unstable.

"Probably, so let me help you experience a day in the life of a schizophrenic," Elijah said. After breakfast, he brought her to his so-called "Toy Car".

The Toy Car wasn't big, but it fit the two of them well enough. It looked like the toy cars that kids played with at theme parks, but the Toy Car had huge wheels. It felt a bit like they were in an off-road vehicle.

When Elijah started driving, Louisa realized that the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover" could be used on objects, too, not just human beings.

The car may have looked like a toy, but it was a perfectly decent drive. It was completely stable and smooth, and it could go pretty quickly. As they drove on the streets, they could comfortably watch the scenery outside their windows.

Even though Elijah hadn't told her where they were going, Louisa could tell that he was taking her out to explore the city.

She didn't see why not. She was in Sadena, anyway, so she might as well treat it like a holiday.

She recalled how she hadn't gotten a single holiday while working with Thaddeus. They hadn't traveled together for fun, either. Even if she got to follow him on an overseas work trip, they had to rush there and back.

Their only trip together had been to Mount Skyreach.

Sadena's streets were extremely clean, and there weren't many passersby. The stores looked empty, but there were plenty of buskers in front of them.

Louisa couldn't see any panic or worry in their faces about how life would turn out. It almost seemed like they couldn't care less whether they had money or not. Earning money seemed to be the least of their worries as long as they got to live in the present.

"Are you jealous of them?" Louisa really couldn't keep any secrets from Elijah.

The car turned a corner. There was an old man with a white beard who was dancing freely on the sidewalk, which drew Louisa's attention.

Even though she had spent years as Thaddeus' decisive, domineering assistant, she was still rather shy when it came to socializing.

She didn't move. She simply stared at him with red cheeks and a thundering heart, unsure of how to turn him down.

The old man didn't look awkward at all at her lack of reaction. Instead, he continued dancing in front of her, and as he danced, he would occasionally reach out to her as an invitation.

The passersby who strolled past glanced in their direction. Some of them even stopped to watch. Louisa's nose was damp with sweat from her anxiety.

"No one knows you here. Even if you started dancing completely naked, it wouldn't matter." Elijah always said the craziest things with the most nonchalant expression.

Louisa turned and glared at him. "I'd like to see you try."

After that, she ended up accepting the old man's persistent invitations and got out of the car. It was just a dance, right?
