Separate Weddings, Separate Lives novel Chapter 70

Inside the dim car, Danica questioned, "How many times are you going to break your own heart before you give up, Thaddeus?"

Although Thaddeus hadn't sought Louisa out, he'd been following her secretly. Danica had been with him throughout the process and witnessed how tortured he'd been every time he saw Louisa and Elijah flaunt their love.

Initially, Danica had felt jealous. However, watching them for hours on end had made her numb. She even pitied Thaddeus.

"Shut it!" All Thaddeus could think about was Elijah carrying Louisa, her arms around his neck. Initially, he'd been sure they were only putting on an act. However, he wasn't quite sure now.

Thaddeus leaned back against the headrest with his eyes closed. He looked utterly defeated.

Danica recalled her father's call that afternoon. "Even if I divorce you now, Louisa won't go back to you. Wake up."

Her words felt like a stab to his heart, and Thaddeus' eyes, red from the lack of sleep, snapped open. He glared at Danica as though he was about to bite her head off.

Danica couldn't help but shiver. However, she wasn't intimidated. She knew he couldn't threaten her because she lorded his mom over him.

Danica had been thinking of that when Thaddeus suddenly grabbed her chin. "Danica, did you think you'd live a cushy life as long as Louisa doesn't come back to me?"

He was truly stating the obvious. She felt it every second.

Despite his violent behavior, Danica ran her fingers through his hair gently. "How could I be happy if you're not?"

How sweet of her!

"Stop putting on an act, Danica. Don't think I'm oblivious to the true reason why you came back to marry me," Thaddeus pointed out.

Danica smirked. "Then, you should also be aware that you weren't my top candidate to marry."
