A server arrived with the dishes and pushed the private room door open.

Elena stole a glance through the gap. The room was filled with people, and Fiona sat right in the center She wore a crisp white business suit, her hair cut to shoulder length, and a shy smile played on her lips.
The server stood in the way, blocking most of Elena’s view. She could only make out a man sitting beside Fiona and one of his arms.
Her gaze fell on the Patek Philippe watch on his wrist-the very one she had personally picked out for Alexander.
No one inside noticed her. The guests were cheering and chatting loudly.
“With Mr. Kingsley backing the Scott Group, we have nothing to worry about. We’ll fully support Ms. Scott from now on.”
“Absolutely. We feel completely secure with Mr. Kingsley here.”
“Mr. Kingsley and Ms. Scott make such a perfect pair-”
Someone suddenly coughed loudly, and the man who spoke trailed off at once.
He glanced nervously at Alexander. The man’s face was impassive, yet a single cold glance carried an overwhelming sense of pressure. The speaker let out an awkward laugh.
“Mr. Kingsley, that’s not what I meant…”
“Can you still not tell which words are proper to say and which are not?” Alexander’s eyes turned icy.
The man forced a smile. “I’ll drink three cups as a penalty.”
He downed three drinks in a row. Only then did Alexander look away. The server set down the food and slipped out of the room quietly.
Alexander’s gaze swept across the doorway. He thought he caught a familiar figure darting past. Frowning. he stood up and walked outside.
“Alex?” Fiona hurried after him.
Alexander stepped out of the private room, but the hallway was empty. There was no sign of Elena
He rubbed his temples. Gideon warned me the medication might trigger hallucinations. So it was true after all
“Are you all right?” Fiona reached out to steady him.
Her hand never made contact. A sharp look from Alexander stopped her cold.
She bit her lip in embarrassment and pulled her arm back. “Thank you for coming with me today Running a company is far more difficult than I imagined. I truly wouldn’t know what to do without you.”

Finishers
The Scott Group had secured investment from Pinnacle Group, but its senior executives were stubborn and hard to manage. Fiona had struggled greatly these days. She could never have handled these cunning old-timers without Alexander’s help
“Don’t forget what you promised me.” Alexander stepped back to put some distance between them. He paid no heed to the admiration and concern in her eyes.
A bitter ache welled up inside Fiona. Her nails dug deep into her palms. She let out a bitter laugh. “I have a question to ask you.”
“Go on.” His tone was utterly cold.
“If I hadn’t threatened you with your illness, would you have come with me today?” She lifted her head, eyes full of hope. She longed to see even the faintest flicker of emotion on his face.
But there was none. He looked at her no differently from how he regarded the other men in the room.
“Never mind, don’t answer.” Fiona cut him off before he could speak. “I don’t want to hear it. I’ll keep my word. I won’t tell Elena anything about your condition. You have my word.”
“See that you do.”
Fiona continued, “Are you really going to keep hiding this from her? Have you thought about what would have happened if I hadn’t found you when you collapsed the other day?”
She had gone to his office that day, only to find him passed out. She helped him to the lounge and watched him lose control, vomiting and suffering from hallucinations. She had never seen Alexander so vulnerable. To her, he had always seemed invincible.
Watching him in such a state filled her with sympathy for him, as well as jealousy and resentment toward Elena.
“She’s your wife, yet she never cares about you.” Fiona frowned. “Do you know…”
She paused, looking hesitant.
“Know what?” Alexander asked flatly.
Fiona pressed her lips together and spoke softly. “While Elena was away on business in Morven, Mr. Hawthorne was there too. People saw him go to her hotel room, and she checked out soon after.”
Seeing Alexander’s expression darken, she quickly added, “I’m not saying anything improper happened between them. But she doesn’t even know how to keep a proper distance. You’re suffering so much, and she turns a blind eye. As a wife, she’s failed to-
“This is none of your business.” Alexander cut her off impatiently.
