Swinging the beer bottle forcefully, Dominic roared, 'Bastards!'
He had worked so diligently for the Lockridge family, yet in the end, Holden treated him as nothing more than a dog.
Dominic gritted his teeth in fury. He should have been the hunter; the Lockridge family and Holden should have all been pawns to be manipulated by him.
But instead...
Dominic tipped his head back, realizing he couldn't get another drop of alcohol out of the bottle, so he ordered another case of beer.
He had intended to use them, but in reality, they just saw him as a convenient dog to boss around, expected to wag its tail and beg for scraps.
This was only the second time Dominic had felt so lost about his future and his life. The first time was when the Hale family went bankrupt and Melanie refused to reconcile with him.
'Melanie...'
Through the hazy fog, Melanie's silhouette floated into his mind. He had almost forgotten. The reason he was fighting so desperately to climb the ranks was so that one day he could become a man above others and force Melanie to come back to him.
But... could he still do it?
'Dominic! Dominic, stop drinking!'
Through eyes glazed with thick alcohol fumes, a woman running toward him was vaguely reflected.
Dominic's eyes lit up instantly. 'Melanie?'
His muddled brain had barely flared with excitement before he frantically avoided her gaze in a panic. He couldn't let Melanie see him like this. It was too pathetic... He had worked so hard to pull himself together. He wanted to leave Melanie with the impression of an outstanding elite, not a drunkard.
'Dominic...'
'Don't look at me, Melanie...'
Hearing Melanie's name, Leila froze, then immediately flew into a furious rage.
Hearing Dominic call Melanie's name again, Leila launched into a volley of screeching complaints.
However, Dominic didn't hear a single word. He thought of Melanie. If he continued to let himself rot, Melanie would never spare him a second glance.
'No...' Dominic stumbled unsteadily to his feet. 'I can't keep going on like this...'
His legs gave way, and he nearly collapsed. It was Leila who caught him just in time.
Dominic turned his head to look at Leila and smiled faintly, his smile full of gratitude. 'Thank you, Leila. You're the only one who treats me the best.'
Suddenly thanked by Dominic like this, Leila blushed. Although she didn't understand why Dominic had suddenly found his conscience, at least he probably wouldn't stay in the nightclub drowning his sorrows anymore.
Leila didn't think she had any deep emotional attachment to Dominic, but right now, besides Dominic, she had no other wealthy man to latch onto. Of course, it would be even better if Dominic would fall head over heels for her.
Dominic leaned his weakened body heavily against Leila.
