She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 1008

The Lockridge family couldn't be trusted, and they certainly couldn't be relied upon...

Leila, at the very least, was dead-set on him and could still be used, so he couldn't afford a falling out with her.

Although Dominic had consumed a lot of alcohol, perhaps it was precisely because of the alcohol that he suddenly felt incredibly driven.

Since... Holden had been ruthless to him.

Then Holden couldn't blame him for being unjust.

After all, Holden had never planned on letting him inherit the Lockridge family empire anyway.

In that case, he might as well...

A subtle, vicious sneer touched the corner of Dominic's mouth.

He might as well go all the way—change the surname of the Lockridge Group to Hale!

Melanie didn't pay much mind to the minor incident with Leila. Although she was somewhat concerned about whether Dominic and the Lockridge family would pull any more cheap tricks, right now, she clearly had more important things to do.

Since Sebastian York had already shown an intention to collaborate, Melanie had to produce a new targeted drug out of thin air, even if she had to conjure it through sheer willpower.

After thinking it over carefully, she contacted Elias Carter.

The reason she reached out to Elias instead of Preston was because the Royce Group was currently collaborating closely with Stellaris PharmaTech. Melanie knew better than anyone that Stellaris PharmaTech didn't have any targeted drug in development that met the requirements.

'Oracle!'

As soon as the call connected, Elias's booming voice nearly deafened Melanie, making her cover her ear.

'Why are you so worked up?' Melanie asked, utterly bewildered.

'Oracle, do you know how many lifetimes it's been since you last called me? How could I not be excited!'

Listening to Elias's words, the corner of Melanie's mouth twitched repeatedly. 'I haven't even finished living one lifetime yet! How many lifetimes have passed on your end? Do we have a time zone difference?'

'Please...' Melanie rubbed her temples, feeling exasperated. 'He and I have been over for a long time. Why would I ask him to pay for it? Seeking him out isn't as good as seeking you out...'

Her sentence cut off abruptly the moment Melanie lifted her head.

Directly in front of her, Preston had mysteriously appeared in her office and was standing right before her.

Melanie's heart did a sudden flip. Acting like a thief with a guilty conscience, she averted her gaze, nervously tucking her hair and shuffling documents, pretending to be very busy.

Elias, unaware of the situation on the other end of the line, kept talking to himself.

'So that means in the Oracle's heart, I'm more reliable than your ex-boyfriend, right? Well, that makes sense. I think I'm way better than him anyway. Why don't you consider me, Oracle?'

Melanie hastily hung up Elias's call.

Facing Preston's grim expression, Melanie offered an awkward smile. 'If I said that was just a spam call, would you believe me?'
