She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 1027

Perhaps because they were so alike, the majority of the time the grandfather and grandson spent together was in companionable silence.

It usually took Rodney chiming in with a new topic to get the two of them talking.

After exchanging a few brief pleasantries, Preston asked Rodney for a pair of pruning shears.

"I'll help you, Grandpa," Preston said softly.

"Do you know how to prune?"

"I used to help my mother with her herbs."

Arthur didn't say anything more, silently accepting Preston's assistance.

The herb garden was exceptionally quiet.

Standing at the entrance, Rodney watched the two men work together, a wry smile touching his lips.

At that moment, Preston was dressed in a sharp black suit, a black shirt, a black tie, and black leather shoes... The only contrast was his pristine white gloves.

Arthur was equally monochromatic, his traditional suit and cloth shoes entirely black, offset only by his striking head of white hair.

Standing side by side, they looked as if they had stepped out of a black-and-white film.

Surrounded by the vibrant colors of the garden, their monochrome presence felt incredibly out of place.

"They really are the spitting image of each other," Rodney chuckled softly.

Preston and Arthur quietly trimmed the foliage for a while. Though they seemed to be working independently, they moved with unspoken synchronization.

Once the overgrown branches and leaves had been neatly pruned away, Arthur finally broke the silence.

"Preston, what brings you to see your grandfather today?"

Preston paused for a moment before answering.

"Nothing in particular. I just wanted to see you."

As soon as the words left Preston's mouth, Arthur let out a knowing chuckle.

"When you visited me in the past, your eyes didn't look nearly as weighed down by secrets as they do now."

"I still have matters to attend to at the company, so I won't stay for dinner."

"Very well. Go on and take care of your business."

Right before he left, Preston couldn't help but look back at Arthur.

"Grandpa, are you really... not planning on moving back with the rest of us?"

"The doctors said this environment is best for my recovery. When I sleep here, I don't have nightmares."

"...Take care of yourself, Grandpa."

With that, Preston left the private estate.

It was exactly four years ago that Arthur had abruptly stepped down as CEO of Stellaris PharmaTech, separated from Tessa, and moved out to this remote resort alone.

At the time, the family doctor had diagnosed Arthur with palpitations, night sweats, and severe insomnia. The bustling city was deemed detrimental to his recovery, prompting the recommendation to move out to the scenic private land.

Naturally, Tessa, Frederick, and the others had wanted to accompany him, but Arthur had firmly forbidden it.
