Arthur had always favored peace and quiet. He argued that if the entire family moved out there with him, it would defeat the whole purpose of a tranquil recovery.
And so, Arthur moved to the resort all by himself.
With world-class security, medical care, and amenities, Tessa and Frederick hadn't worried too much.
Their only concern was that the naturally reclusive Arthur might isolate himself even further.
"Four years ago..."
Walking out of the resort, Preston murmured the timeline under his breath.
Arthur had moved out of the city exactly four years ago.
Melanie Royce's mother had died in a car crash overseas exactly four years ago as well.
Was all of this... truly just a coincidence, devoid of any connection?
Preston asked himself, but he couldn't find an answer.
Not only his father, but even his grandfather insisted that Stellaris PharmaTech had never developed VitalBreath Fortis in the past.
Where exactly was the discrepancy?
Who was lying?
Were the documents he had uncovered forged, or...
Were his father and grandfather lying to him?
Just as Preston's thoughts hit a dead end, his phone rang.
The caller ID displayed a name that genuinely surprised him.
"Hello?"
Preston answered the call.
"Seriously, Preston, do you have to be so roundabout? It's just thirty million dollars. Why didn't you just give it to Melanie directly? Did you really have to go and buy out that MedGenius Elite app just to jack the prize money up to thirty million?"
Elias Carter's overly enthusiastic voice boomed through the receiver.
"You sure pay a lot of attention to Stellaris. How else would you know I bought that app?"
"Come on now... Know your enemy and know yourself, right? So what's the deal? Did you and the Oracle get into a fight?"
Preston frowned.
Listening to Elias's tone, it felt like the man was either making snide remarks or outright gloating.
"If you called just to laugh at me, I'm hanging up."
Regardless, he was partly responsible for their breakup.
Elias still felt more than a little guilty about it.
The moment he noticed Stellaris's recent acquisition, he immediately figured out that Preston was trying to sneak thirty million dollars into Melanie's pockets.
Since Melanie refused to even accept thirty million from him directly, it was obvious she was still drawing a hard line between them.
In other words, they still hadn't gotten back together.
"My bad, man. This is totally my bad," Elias muttered to himself.
"I'm hanging up."
"Wait!"
Preston felt like his eardrum was going to burst from Elias's shouting.
"If you leave tomorrow, you can make it just in time for the Governor of Luna Isle's tenth wedding anniversary celebration."
Preston's eyelids fluttered slightly.
Elias's words actually managed to pique his interest.
