"I know! I don't think you're a creep."
As the celebration was about to begin, Melanie and Preston headed to separate changing rooms to swap their clothes.
Preston finished quickly and waited outside for her.
A few moments later, he saw Melanie emerge from the women's changing room.
Instantly, his eyes lit up.
Even on a beach filled with people wearing every dazzling color and style of bikini imaginable, Melanie still took his breath away.
Although it was a bikini, Preston had purposely avoided anything overtly revealing or aggressively sexy.
It was an innocent white two-piece, overlaid with a sheer, water-soluble lace cover-up. Her shoulders peeked out subtly, and the hem of the beach skirt fluttered in the breeze, mimicking the mesmerizing waves of the ocean.
Melanie took a few steps toward him and waved her hand in front of his face.
Only then did Preston snap out of his daze.
Melanie chuckled softly.
"What, cat got your tongue?"
Preston cleared his throat, feigning composure.
But Melanie could clearly see the blush creeping up his neck.
Honestly, the swimsuit was very conservative. It covered exactly what it needed to and then some.
But when Melanie had first put it on and looked in the mirror, she realized it gave off a hazy, alluring vibe.
The kind of covered-up modesty that left just enough to the imagination to make hearts race.
So, she wasn't surprised by his reaction.
Preston had always possessed excellent taste in clothing. One look at the bikini, and she knew he had meticulously picked it out just for her.
In stark contrast, his own swim trunks were almost painfully casual.
Or rather, they were perfectly on-brand for Preston Whitmore.
They were just plain, solid black boxer briefs. No patterns, no details.
Pitch black.
And of course, just as always, his hands were sheathed in those pristine, glaringly obvious white gloves.
It was almost as if the gloves were a part of his anatomy.
Melanie had long since grown accustomed to his bizarre habit of wearing gloves around the clock.
But the other people on Luna Isle clearly hadn't.
Melanie felt a flush of embarrassment and playfully covered her face.
"And that guy over there with the heavy beard said you're too pretty for him to even try flirting with."
Melanie didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
"And that little boy over there..."
"What did the little boy say?"
Melanie leaned in, her curiosity piqued.
Preston paused for a second before answering.
"He said I look incredibly weird."
Melanie froze, instantly realizing the boy was referring to Preston's gloves. A wry smile touched her lips.
To anyone else, a man walking on a tropical beach in swim trunks while wearing white gloves really was a bizarre sight.
"Preston..."
"Yeah?"
Shifting his dark gaze, Preston looked down at the woman walking beside him.
