Everett noticed Preston effortlessly handling their cart. A sudden wave of delayed realization hit him—Daphne had been pushing their cart the entire time they had been shopping.
Since she hadn't asked him to take over, he hadn't even thought about it, simply trailing beside her like a lost puppy.
When Everett quickly stepped up and pulled the cart toward himself, Daphne blinked in surprise before beaming with delight.
"Look at you being all considerate!"
At her praise, Everett ducked his head, offering a shy, modest smile.
Then, he lifted his gaze, stealing a quick glance at Melanie.
Daphne had a carefree, forgiving personality.
She would never hold it against him if he didn't intuitively jump in to help with chores like pushing a cart.
But Melanie was entirely different.
She was impossibly sharp and perceptive.
More importantly, she was fiercely protective of her best friend.
Everett refused to let Melanie think he was a lazy, inattentive boyfriend who took Daphne for granted.
"You guys are grocery shopping too!"
Melanie walked over, glancing at the contents of their cart with a teasing grin.
"What's going on here? Getting ready to move in together?"
At the words 'move in', Daphne's face exploded into a violent blush.
"Wh-what are you talking about? Stop spouting nonsense."
"What's the big deal? Isn't the honeymoon phase all about cohabitating?"
"No, it's not!" Daphne lunged forward, trying to slap a hand over Melanie's mouth.
Everett was painfully bashful. What if Melanie's aggressive teasing scared him off?
Truthfully, Daphne wasn't even sure if they were in a 'honeymoon phase'.
She was absolutely on board with moving in together.
But what about Everett?
She figured there was a massive chance he'd shut the idea down completely.
When it came to romance, Daphne knew she needed to play the long game.
Standing nearby, Everett's face was completely scarlet.
Just as Melanie pointed out, they were dating. Moving in together was a completely natural progression.
