She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 1064

"Where did it bite you? I'll suck the venom out!"

The words tore out of his mouth in a frantic rush of adrenaline.

A split second later, reality came crashing down. He had just offered to suck poison out of another woman's leg in front of his girlfriend.

Dread pooled in his gut as he slowly turned his head to look at Daphne.

Daphne met his eyes for a fleeting, painful moment before sharply looking away.

Every instinct in Everett's body told him he had just made a colossal, unforgivable mistake.

Even though she was desperately trying to keep her expression neutral, the vibrant warmth had completely drained from her face, replaced by a tense, wounded silence.

Everett bit down hard on his lower lip.

He had crossed a line.

But he was just terrified. He saw Melanie get bitten by what he thought was a deadly snake and panicked.

"I'm fine."

Melanie waved them off, exasperated.

"It was a smooth green snake. Completely harmless. And for the record..."

She shot Everett a severe look.

"Even if it had been venomous, you never try to suck the venom out. That's a ridiculous myth. You'd just cause a secondary infection or make the venom spread faster."

Schooled by the very woman he had panicked over, Everett stared at the ground, humiliated and completely stripped of his dignity.

The bite was barely a scratch. Melanie honestly didn't care.

But the moment she took a step, she was suddenly swept right off her feet and into a pair of strong arms.

"Preston, what are you doing?"

Melanie demanded, her eyes wide with shock.

"Carrying you."

Preston stated matter-of-factly.

His tone left zero room for argument, wrapped in a dominant edge that made her pulse flutter wildly.

A hot blush stained her cheeks. Too flustered to protest, she surrendered, letting him carry her all the way from the bamboo grove back into the main house.

Daphne and Everett trailed behind them in suffocating silence, a palpable, aching distance wedged between them.

Originally, Melanie had planned for her and Daphne to share a bedroom for the night.

She had been looking forward to staying up late and having a proper girls' night.
