She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 1067

Daphne had no idea how she finally fell asleep that night. Her mind was a chaotic blur, looping the painful realization that Everett didn't love her.

When she dragged herself out of bed the next morning, the mirror reflected a pale, exhausted woman with massive dark circles under her eyes. She stared at her messy reflection and sighed.

"I already couldn't compete with Melanie, and now I look like a zombie. This is pathetic."

Unable to shake the heavy gloom settling over her, Daphne decided to keep the club closed for the day. That had been the original plan anyway, assuming they'd still be at the lodge.

Scavenging through her sparse kitchen, she managed to whip up a sad, burnt grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. It was her go-to comfort meal, but today, it tasted like ash compared to the incredible feast Melanie had cooked up the day before.

"And I actually thought I could cook for Everett," she muttered, tossing the crust onto her plate. The self-loathing was suffocating.

After forcing down the food, she grabbed her phone and texted Melanie to check on her ankle. No matter how jealous she felt, Melanie was still her best friend. Reading Melanie's quick reply that she was perfectly fine brought Daphne a small wave of relief.

She was just staring blankly at the ceiling when a frantic knocking echoed from the front door.

"What the hell? Can't they read the 'Closed' sign?" she grumbled.

She assumed whoever it was would eventually give up, but the pounding only grew louder and more aggressive.

"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Daphne yelled, marching toward the entrance. "Who gets this hammered in the middle of the day?"

She figured it was either a day-drunk patron or a lost tourist. She yanked the door open—and froze.

Everett was standing on the other side.
