She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 1066

"It's been a long day, you must be exhausted. Go get some sleep," Daphne said, forcing a bright smile as she stood outside the club. She waved at Everett, turned on her heel, and walked inside, pulling the heavy door firmly shut behind her.

The moment the lock clicked, the smile vanished from her face.

She didn't even make it to the nearest leather booth. Her legs gave out, and she slid down the door, collapsing onto the cold floor.

It was getting late. The unlit club was pitch black and suffocatingly silent. Daphne sat there in the shadows, her eyes vacant and staring at nothing. Her heart felt like it was being squeezed in a vise.

Was there anything more agonizing than realizing your boyfriend was still in love with your best friend?

Daphne let out a heavy, trembling sigh. She had never been the most observant woman, but even she couldn't ignore how deeply Everett cared for Melanie. His instinctual panic when Melanie was bitten by the snake had spoken volumes. She didn't know if Everett even realized it himself, but from where she was standing, his first priority would always be Melanie.

Even though he was officially her boyfriend now, his rawest, most genuine emotions belonged to someone else.

Daphne gripped her hair, fighting back a wave of nausea. She couldn't lie to herself anymore. When he had accepted her confession, she had naively hoped that even if he didn't love her as fiercely, they could build that connection over time. But they had been dating for a while now, and not once had he ever looked at her with the sheer terror and devotion he had shown Melanie today.

"What's the point of lying to myself?" she whispered, the bitter words swallowed by the empty room. "Is there even a reason to keep this going?"
