Melanie was talking with Spencer.
It was Spencer who had approached her, his attitude exceptionally attentive.
While all the guests present were wealthy and influential, Spencer was the biggest name among them.
And since his arrival, he had only spoken to Melanie.
Dominic also came over with a glass of wine to join the conversation.
On one hand, Spencer was his most important business partner. On the other, he didn’t want to see Melanie alone with Spencer.
Evelyn saw right through Dominic's petty thoughts.
Her grip on her wine glass tightened, and she shot a look at Emilia.
Melanie was just a records clerk. If she loved the spotlight so much, Evelyn would make sure she got more than she bargained for.
Emilia understood Evelyn’s signal instantly and picked up a glass of red wine, walking toward Melanie.
“Oops! My bad!”
Just as Melanie turned, Emilia pretended to stumble, pouring the entire glass of red wine all over her.
Beside them, Dominic and Spencer were shocked.
Melanie, however, stared blankly at Emilia, who was wearing a triumphant smirk.
This little act was so childish.
But effective.
Melanie was wearing an ivory-white suit, which she had been careful to keep clean. After Emilia’s stunt, a large crimson stain spread across the white fabric, incredibly conspicuous.
“I’m so sorry, Melanie! I didn’t do it on purpose,” Emilia apologized with feigned surprise.
“You can’t be seen in an outfit that stained. You should probably just go home!”
“Besides… you’re just a records clerk. It doesn’t really matter if you’re here or not, does it?”
His fingers dug into her arm, leaving a blossoming heat against her skin. Melanie angrily shook him off.
“They’re laughing at Emilia. And… why weren’t you this angry when Emilia threw wine on me?”
“I…” Dominic was left speechless by her retort.
“I was just worried about our store… You were the one who made this project happen. If Emilia causes a bad impression among our clients, you’ll be the one to suffer in the end.”
Dominic’s tone softened, his excuse sounding grand and righteous.
But Melanie just gave a cold laugh and ignored him.
The unluckiest thing that had ever happened to her in her entire life—
was marrying Dominic.
Seeing Melanie walk silently out of the store, Dominic took two steps to follow her, then stopped.
Just then, Evelyn came closer and said decisively, “Dominic, her clothes were ruined. It’s better that she left. Otherwise, she’d just be an embarrassment staying here.”
