And every time, Leila only gave Warren just enough to keep him hungry.
Warren seemed to think she was playing hard to get.
But Dominic worried the old man would soon realize he was being played for a fool.
Besides, the project couldn't wait much longer.
The bottom line was that Leila just wasn't cooperating.
So he had been forced to coddle her, feeding her lies about building their grand future together.
That was exactly why he had bought her the jade set today.
Partly because he didn't want her looking cheap in front of the executive.
But mostly to give her a tangible reward, something to motivate her to finally seal the deal with Warren.
"Are you serious, Leila? You've finally come around? You'll handle Warren for me?"
Seeing Dominic's skeptical expression, Leila flashed a coy smile.
"Of course! For our future together, how could I not?"
Hearing that, Dominic faked a surge of deep emotion and pulled her into a tight embrace.
His eyes immediately darted back toward Melanie, morbidly curious to see if the sight of him holding another woman would provoke a reaction.
Melanie was, in fact, looking right at him.
Yet her gaze was dead and utterly indifferent. She didn't so much as blink.
A cold, hollow void opened in Dominic's chest.
He quickly pushed Leila away.
If Warren caught them holding each other for too long, it could ruin everything.
Shortly after, the awards ceremony officially began.
The awards were handed out one by one. Dominic took the stage to accept an honor on behalf of the Lockridge Group and delivered a polished speech.
Melanie noted that Dominic was the sole representative for the Lockridge Group tonight.
