She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 1091

"Where are you going, Melanie?"

Gabriel Whitmore watched Melanie Royce return to her seat, take a single sip of juice, and immediately stand back up. He couldn't help but ask.

For tonight's awards ceremony, Gabriel had assumed Preston Whitmore would attend as the official representative for Stellaris PharmaTech.

But Preston had no intention of exposing his true identity in front of a crowd. Doing so would ruin his cover as Melanie’s assistant, the perfect excuse to stay right by her side.

And so, it fell to Gabriel to accept the award alongside Melanie.

Since Preston couldn't enter the venue without an invitation, Gabriel felt it was his solemn duty to act as Melanie’s temporary bodyguard.

She was going to be his sister-in-law, after all. He had to keep a close eye on her.

Subconsciously, Gabriel shot a glare in Dominic Hale’s direction.

Dominic—Melanie’s ex-husband—was the worst offender, always buzzing around her like a persistent fly.

He had to watch that guy like a hawk and make sure he didn't get anywhere near Melanie.

Gabriel's overly defensive posture made Melanie want to laugh.

He was never one to hide his feelings; every thought he had was written plainly across his face.

Just by looking at him, she knew he was on high alert against Dominic, terrified the man would harass her again.

Or worse, terrified she might still harbor feelings for her ex.

"Relax, Gabriel. I'm just going to the restroom," she said.

Hearing that, Gabriel let out a sigh of relief and patted his chest.

Leaving her clutch behind, Melanie headed straight for the restroom.

She hadn't drank much water tonight.

Yet, after just one sip of juice, she felt the sudden urge to go.

But the moment she reached the restroom doors, the feeling completely vanished.

"Huh?"

She tilted her head, a strange sense of unease washing over her.

Turning around, she found a uniformed server standing right behind her.

"Excuse me, are you Ms. Royce?"

Surprised to hear her name, Melanie gave a brief nod.
