Everett parked the car and stepped out.
Daphne quickly followed suit.
As they reached the club's entrance, Everett's dry lips parted slightly.
But in the end, he said nothing.
He turned around, shrouded in heavy silence, and prepared to walk away.
Then, Daphne's voice echoed behind him.
"You're mad, aren't you?"
Everett stopped in his tracks.
The moment he turned back around, his eyes widened in shock.
Daphne was crying.
Tears streamed down her face in a relentless cascade.
Her eyes were already red and puffy, swollen from holding back her emotions.
Everett had never expected her to break down like this, and a sudden wave of panic washed over him.
"What... what are you doing? Why are you crying?"
"Because you're mad at me!" Daphne yelled, her voice breaking through her tears.
She had never been able to bottle things up. She couldn't keep her feelings hidden.
"Just because I didn't warn you, because showing my uncle around was just an excuse for you to meet my family... that's why you're mad, right?"
"I'm not."
"You are!"
Daphne was nearly hysterical.
It was as if she had kept everything suppressed for too long and finally found a release valve.
"But what else was I supposed to do? I didn't do it on purpose..."
"I just tried on a wedding dress, posted a few photos on The Feed, and deleted them immediately. I never thought Richard would see them. He thought we were already engaged, so he demanded to meet you."
"I couldn't explain it away! And..."
And Daphne knew she had her own selfish motives, too.
If she used this chance to have Everett meet her uncle, maybe they could finally put the wedding on the agenda.
Daphne didn't even know why she was in such a rush.
It felt like the longer she dated Everett, the further away marriage slipped.
