She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 1133

The Royce Group.

Everett barely made it to work on time. He hadn't slept well at all; first, he couldn't fall asleep, and when he finally did, it was restless.

His mind had been stuck on a single loop: Daphne blocked him.

Did she block him simply because he broke up with her? Wasn't that a bit petty? Even if they couldn't be lovers... couldn't they still be friends?

The more he obsessed over it, the more unsettled he felt. Deep down, he knew the truth. She wanted absolutely nothing to do with him.

Clocking in at the last possible second, he caught his reflection in the glass doors. He looked awful. Two massive, dark bags hung under his eyes, making him look utterly exhausted. Anyone passing by would think he was suffering from a terminal illness.

He slumped into his office chair, completely deflated.

He barely had time to settle in before his door violently flew open.

"Melanie?"

Everett had barely stood up when Melanie Royce stormed toward him, her arm swinging back.

Smack!

A vicious slap cracked across his face. His head snapped to the side, a sudden metallic taste flooding his mouth as blood pooled in the corner of his lips.

He was too stunned to move. It took him a full second to turn his head back to look at her, only for her hand to connect with his other cheek.

An eerie, heavy silence swallowed the office. Both sides of his face throbbed, burning red and swelling rapidly.

"Melanie, what are you—"

"I had no idea you were such a total bastard, Everett," Melanie snarled.

Hearing her call him a bastard, Everett frowned. She must have found out about the breakup.

"Did Daphne tell you?" he asked quietly.

It made sense she would run to her best friend to cry after getting dumped.

Melanie crossed her arms over her chest and scoffed.
