From her outfit to her flawless makeup, she looked perfectly put together.
More importantly, her energy was vibrant. There was no trace of a woman who had just gone through a brutal breakup.
The thought of the split sent a sharp ache through Everett's chest, and he couldn't help but laugh bitterly at himself.
He was the one who dumped her, but somehow, he was the one struggling to move on?
The only reason Everett was in Emberton and at this arena today was because of work.
After concluding a project meeting, the opposing firm's executive mentioned the friendly match against a rival company and invited him along.
Normally, Everett had zero interest in basketball.
But unable to refuse the hospitable offer, he had agreed.
His original plan was to show his face and slip out early.
He never expected to run into Melanie and Daphne here.
Feeling as though invisible strings of fate were pulling him, Everett found himself walking further inside.
He wanted to find Daphne and demand to know why she had blocked him.
Just because they couldn't be lovers, did that mean they couldn't even be friends?
Before he could fully enter the court, Daphne's loud voice echoed through the space.
"I love you, Sam Harrison! I'm your idol!"
Standing on the court in his basketball jersey, Sam stared at the hyperventilating woman in front of him, caught between amusement and bewilderment.
It was the first time a fan had ever told him, "I'm your idol."
Realizing her massive slip of the tongue, Daphne practically slapped her own mouth.
"I'm so sorry, I'm sorry! I meant... you're my fan—wait, no, I'm your fan!"
Sam laughed good-naturedly, nodding along.
Seeing her face flushed red with excitement and stumbling over her words, it was glaringly obvious she was a die-hard fan.
"I've been a massive fan of yours for so long! That slam dunk you did in the Pro League six years ago was absolutely phenomenal! I still think about it."
She was practically bouncing on the balls of her feet as she pulled out a printed photo and a marker.
"Um... would you mind signing this for me?"
