Melanie had absolutely no idea who this woman was.
"And you are..."
The woman stopped in front of her, haughtily flipping her hair.
"I'm Tiffany Lloyd, special assistant to the R&D Director of this facility."
It was a mouthful, but Melanie caught the underlying meaning immediately.
No wonder she was being treated with instant hostility. This was Aria Royce's assistant.
"Are you here to see Director Royce? Too bad. You won't be getting through those doors without an appointment."
Melanie offered a polite, graceful smile.
"What a shame. I have one."
"Oh?" Tiffany tilted her head, feigning dramatic confusion.
"That's strange. I don't have anything on my schedule. The secretary must have made a mistake. But rules are rules. Sorry you wasted a trip, Ms. Royce."
Tiffany's words were cloaked in corporate politeness, but Melanie saw right through the game.
Tiffany was deliberately stonewalling her to orchestrate a humiliating rejection.
"I brought a corporate partnership to the table. Tell Aria that if she refuses to see me today, I will never return."
Tiffany let out a mocking scoff.
"Are you trying to threaten us? This institute is the crown jewel of the Lockridge Group. We have partnerships with the government and major conglomerates. Director Royce is incredibly busy. We don't need your business."
Instead of getting angry, Melanie actually laughed.
"That's funny. I heard several major pharmaceutical firms completely rejected your facility because you lack the proper credentials."
"What?!" Tiffany's smug expression shattered into genuine panic.
In truth, Tiffany had no idea what projects the institute was actually handling, or how big they were.
She had only been hired two weeks ago.
