As soon as Sam finished speaking, Daphne elbowed him sharply in the ribs.
Glancing at Daphne, Sam shot her an annoyed pout.
He knew she was trying to warn him not to take such a harsh tone with Melanie.
Sam himself was well aware that Melanie operated on a different level than he did.
She was part of the high-society elite.
That much was obvious just from her clothes, her makeup, and the way she carried herself.
But it was exactly because of that that he couldn't stand her princess complex.
Besides, he was the one paying for the meal.
Melanie hadn't chipped in a dime, so what right did she have to be a critic about the food he ordered?
Daphne was so much better in comparison.
Easygoing, uncomplicated, and not a total nightmare to please.
Watching Sam's irritated expression, Melanie offered a cold smile.
"You say I have a princess attitude... Well then, let me ask you this. You kept asking Daphne what she wanted to eat, but look at this table... is there a single thing here that Daphne actually asked for?"
A quick glance was all it took to see that the table was covered exclusively in Sam's favorites.
Sam opened his mouth, completely at a loss for words.
The atmosphere at the table instantly turned hostile.
Caught between her boyfriend and her best friend, Daphne felt horribly awkward.
"Oh, it's fine, Mel. I can eat all the stuff Sam ordered."
"Being able to eat it and wanting to eat it are two entirely different things. And as your best friend, I think I'm perfectly entitled to decide whether or not your boyfriend makes the cut."
Melanie delivered this speech with a polite smile, but Sam's heart was pounding like a drum, and cold sweat began to bead on his forehead.
He had finally managed to land a girlfriend, and he hadn't even gotten his money's worth out of the relationship yet. He wasn't about to let it all get blown up now.
Moreover, the sheer aura Melanie radiated made him feel like she could make him disappear without a trace and no one would bat an eye.
Sam couldn't afford to mess with a woman like her.
"My bad, my bad! Sorry about that, Melanie. Daphne and I are just so used to keeping things casual... Waiter!"
Sam slammed his hand on the table and flagged down a server.
"Uh... let's get some of the Premium Ribeye Skewers and the Pickled Kelp Strips too."
