She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 146

“Lila’s getting bigger every day. She even told me her kindergarten teacher praised how realistic the flowers she drew were. She also said… she wants to become a great painter like Marisse Vale when she grows up.”

Dominic was surprised by Evelyn’s words.

“I didn’t realize you were in such a hurry to sell the house for Lila’s sake. Why didn’t you tell me from the start?”

“I was afraid you’d think I was spoiling her. After all, Marisse Vale’s paintings are very expensive, and…”

Seeing Evelyn lower her gaze, her expression dimming, Dominic pressed on curiously.

“And what? Evelyn, is there anything you can’t tell me?”

Dominic took her hand, and Evelyn gave a bitter smile.

“And I didn’t want you to suspect me of using Lila as an excuse to sell the house, just so I could stay in Averin and force you to make our relationship official…”

As she spoke, tears began to stream down her face.

Dominic panicked, pulling several tissues to wipe her tears away.

“Evelyn, you’re a good mother. You’re even willing to sell your house for Lila’s education. How could I ever misunderstand you!”

Dominic’s insincere act disgusted Melanie, who was watching from a short distance away.

She actually thought Evelyn’s confession had a grain of truth to it.

To usurp Melanie’s place, cut off Dominic’s retreat, and force him into a divorce, Evelyn would certainly be capable of selling the villa in Bresford.

It wasn't like they were ever going back there anyway.

Back when Melanie was preparing the divorce agreement with Ms. Crestfall, aiming to make Dominic leave with nothing, she had investigated the property.

The house in Hillbourne Park, Bresford, was bought by Dominic.

He had naturally used the personal savings Camilla had set aside for him, so it didn’t count as marital property.

Furthermore, the villa was initially registered under Everett’s name.

It was only after Everett went missing and was declared legally dead that the house automatically became Evelyn’s property.

With rising property values, the villa was now worth at least thirty million dollars.

If she didn’t sell, it would only continue to appreciate.

A shrewd woman like Evelyn couldn't possibly fail to understand that.

So…

What was Evelyn’s real reason for selling the house at this critical juncture?

Melanie had a big question mark in her mind.

In the end, after tailing Dominic and Evelyn all morning, Melanie came up with nothing substantial.

She had originally thought Dominic was really going to buy Evelyn another house.

On the drive back to her office, Melanie unexpectedly received a call from Preston.

It felt more like a thoughtful gesture.

Melanie smiled.

“No need, I can just drive over myself.”

The line went silent for a brief moment.

“Alright, as you wish.”

Those last few words inexplicably gave Melanie the illusion that she really was Preston’s girlfriend.

“By the way…”

Just as she thought he was about to hang up, Melanie heard Preston add:

“You don’t have to wear anything you don’t like tonight.”

Preston’s words reminded her of their visit to the hospital. If Preston hadn’t bought both suits, she would have missed out on the purple one she loved.

“I was just afraid of wearing something too avant-garde and scaring your grandmother.”

“Don’t worry, my grandmother isn’t that old-fashioned. Just be yourself.”

After saying that, Preston hung up.

Melanie shrugged, feeling a sense of relief wash over her after hearing his words.
