"I thought about it all night. Evelyn has a better education than you, and you failed to secure the deal with Luminaria Aesthetic Institute yesterday. So... Evelyn will be the Director. You can be the Deputy Director. You and Evelyn can share an office; it will be easier for you two to coordinate on things."
Originally, Dominic had planned to give Evelyn a director position in another department, but Evelyn had refused, saying that working in business development was the best way she could help him.
"Alright."
Melanie agreed without hesitation.
A flash of surprise crossed Dominic's eyes.
He thought Melanie wouldn't agree so easily.
"But let's skip the Deputy Director title. None of the other departments in our company have one."
"Then…"
"I'll just go help out at the new company."
Melanie said it so naturally that Dominic didn't even react at first.
Dominic's new company was a health management firm backed by Hale Pharmaceuticals.
The legal representative of the company was actually Dominic's father, Charles Hale.
But Charles was getting older, and managing Hale Pharmaceuticals already took up all his energy. He couldn't be in two places at once, so the Hale Health Center was fully managed by Dominic.
In fact, the Hale Health Center was a new company Charles had specifically set up for Dominic.
Since the Hale Group had failed to grow, the Hale family was pinning all their hopes on the new company.
And the reason Dominic wasn't the legal representative was, naturally, to keep their daughter-in-law, Melanie, at arm's length.
"But…"
Dominic hesitated.
He couldn't just say that the new company was a Hale family asset and it wasn't convenient for Melanie to get involved; that would make it seem like he was treating his own wife as an outsider.
But he really didn't want Melanie in his family's new company.
His father had high hopes for it, and Melanie didn't have any real skills. If it went public, there was no guarantee Melanie wouldn't try to claim a piece of the pie.
That was something his family absolutely did not want to see happen.
However, everyone in the company knew Melanie was Dominic's wife.
If Melanie stayed, she might not gain much of an advantage either.
"Dominic, since she's put it that way, just let her do it."
Anyway, it was just a records clerk position. She couldn't stir up much trouble.
And so, Melanie left the Hale Group.
During the handover, she was very thorough, especially with the Luminaria Aesthetic Institute project. She relayed Mr. Vellor's requirements to Evelyn in minute detail.
After Melanie left, Evelyn spun around excitedly in her swivel chair.
She couldn't believe Melanie was foolish enough to give her such crucial information.
She made an internal call to Dominic.
"Dominic, I have a way to land the Luminaria Aesthetic Institute project!"
