She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 18

"This is your workstation. All these files need to be archived by the end of the day."

Jonas impatiently dropped a stack of files onto Melanie's desk.

This was Melanie's first appearance at the new company since its establishment.

Unlike at the Hale Group, none of the employees here knew Melanie, so they certainly didn't know she was Dominic's wife.

Jonas, for example, just assumed Melanie was a new records clerk hired by HR.

Despite being assigned a lot of menial tasks right away, Melanie was unhurried. She sat down and began organizing everything methodically.

Before noon, she had finished all the work at hand.

For the rest of the time, she reviewed the new company's current projects and plans.

"It'd be a miracle if this company ever went public," Melanie murmured, rubbing her forehead.

"Is even a records clerk's job giving you a headache?"

Following the voice, Melanie saw Evelyn striding towards her imperiously, with Jonas trailing behind her like a lapdog.

Jonas didn't recognize Melanie or know who she was.

But he recognized Evelyn and knew she was Dominic's sister.

Moreover, he had heard that Evelyn had recently become the Marketing Director at the Hale Group.

"I know you're used to a pampered life, but you can't be slacking off on your first day at a new post!"

Evelyn was bossy and condescending.

Dominic wasn't around, and Jonas didn't know Melanie's identity. She could treat Melanie however she wanted, not like a sister-in-law.

"Mr. Carter, are you just going to let your employees get away with this?"

Suddenly criticized by Evelyn, Jonas felt his heart pound with fear.

"Melanie, didn't I tell you to archive those files?"

"They're already done."

After hearing Melanie's casual reply, Evelyn shot Jonas a glare.

"Mr. Carter, doesn't our health center have a lot of documents to organize for the Halevy Group project? Why haven't you assigned that?"

"Ah, yes, yes… I'll have Melanie do it right away."

Jonas scurried off to get the documents.

In reality, their company's project with the Halevy Group had never even been finalized. Organizing the files was a pointless task.

Not because he was on Melanie's side, but because he was afraid she would get overwhelmed and quit. Then he'd be stuck with the work until a replacement was hired.

"Fine, leave it to me."

Melanie agreed without hesitation.

Evelyn smirked triumphantly and left the records room with Jonas in tow.

By evening, Melanie had nearly finished organizing the documents.

Given the Hale Health Center's current state of operations, it was wise of the Halevy Group to decline the partnership.

Melanie picked up her phone and sent a message to Elias Carter.

[Will the Halevy Group be at the symposium at the Aurelia Grand tonight?]

Just as she sent the text, her phone rang. It was him. Melanie answered.

"Goddess, you're finally interested in that symposium?"

Elias's voice was electric with excitement on the other end.

"No, I'm not interested. But I need to meet someone there. Can you get me an invitation?"

As night fell, the Aurelia Grand shimmered with dazzling lights, its musical fountain at the entrance a spectacular display that drew crowds of onlookers.
