“Thank you, Melanie. I feel much clearer now.”
Melanie let out a sigh of relief.
If Preston was clearer, she was safer.
“About what just happened…”
“What just happened was because you were under the influence of a drug. I won’t hold it against you.”
After Melanie spoke, she noticed Preston’s brows furrow.
She guessed he was displeased that he had been drugged.
“You can hold it against me.”
“What?”
“…Nothing…”
Melanie felt that Preston was holding something back. Just as she was about to ask again, her phone suddenly rang.
It was Gabriel.
Gabriel had been waiting in the restaurant for a long time. His original plan was to treat Melanie and his brother to dinner, then make a quick exit to give them some time alone.
Instead, he had been waiting in the restaurant forever and still hadn’t seen Melanie or his brother, so he finally decided to call.

In the restaurant.
Melanie and Preston arrived late.
Gabriel asked a few curious questions, but Melanie, naturally, didn’t disclose what had happened with Preston in the bathroom.
She ate quickly and left the table before Gabriel could even come up with an excuse to leave.
“Bro, why didn’t you try to make Ms. Royce stay? She ate so fast, it almost feels like she’s avoiding me. Or… is she avoiding you?”
Preston silently cut his steak.
Melanie had said she wouldn't hold it against him, but in reality, she was still bothered by it, wasn’t she?
Preston lowered his gaze, a complex mix of emotions swirling in his eyes. He wasn't sure if Melanie being bothered by him was a good thing or a bad thing.
“By the way, bro, did you notice Ms. Royce’s lips look a little swollen? Don't tell me someone kissed her?”
After Gabriel asked, he saw Preston nod and murmur, “Mm.”
“Who?! Who’s bold enough to kiss my future sister-in-law?!”
Gabriel was so agitated he looked ready to flip the table.
And she looked awful, with a terrified expression on her face.
Melanie noticed that as soon as Emilia arrived, she suspiciously slipped into Evelyn’s office.
It seemed Evelyn had been the one who instructed Emilia to drug her and lure her to the hotel room at the resort.
During her lunch break, Melanie went to her lawyer’s office.
She occasionally met with Ms. Crestfall to refine the divorce agreement.
“Here… let’s give Dominic an out.”
Melanie pointed to the black-and-white text of the agreement.
“If Dominic doesn't agree to leave with nothing, he can choose to compensate me for my losses over the years…”
Looking at the additional 50 billion dollar fee Melanie had just added to the agreement, Ms. Crestfall’s mouth twitched uncontrollably.
How was this giving Dominic an out?
This was pushing him off a cliff.
With the newly drafted divorce agreement in hand, before Melanie could even leave Ms. Crestfall’s office, she received a call from her company.
“Ms. Royce, you need to come back! Something terrible has happened at the office!”
