When the delivery guy brought the items in, he spotted Evelyn right away.
“Thank you, Miss, for buying so many baby products from our store… Are you preparing for a charity event at an orphanage? Why else would the initial delivery address be a company office?”
As soon as the delivery guy said this, everyone’s eyes shot toward Evelyn.
Evelyn’s face flushed with embarrassment.
“What are you talking about? I don’t know you, and I’ve never bought any baby products from your store. You must have the wrong person.”
“That’s impossible!”
The delivery guy immediately pulled a receipt from his work uniform pocket.
“It was you. You bought a lot of baby products from our store before, and the delivery address was the Hale Health Center. Look, here’s your signature from the payment… Evelyn, your name is Evelyn, right?”
With the delivery guy presenting the evidence, Evelyn’s expression turned ugly, showing the unnatural stiffness of being caught red-handed.
Melanie crossed her arms and let out a sneer.
She didn’t know who had sent for this delivery guy, but his timing was perfect.
Stared at by several pairs of scrutinizing eyes, Evelyn stammered, unable to find the right words.
“I… I saw Melanie coming out of the hospital and thought she might be pregnant…”
This excuse didn't hold up in the eyes of Nathaniel and Gregory.
Caught off guard, Evelyn couldn’t come up with a better excuse on the spot.
After the delivery guy left, Melanie spoke up frankly.
“So now the truth is out. Evelyn deliberately bought baby supplies and had them sent to the company to fabricate rumors about me being pregnant.”
“I did not!” Evelyn retorted.
But Melanie’s expression hardened as she pointed at Evelyn.
“Apologize!”
Before Lila could finish, Dominic pulled her into his arms and clamped a hand over her mouth.
“Nathaniel, Evelyn went too far this time. It’s my failure in raising her that caused Melanie this trouble,” Gregory said to Nathaniel with an apologetic smile.
“Evelyn just made a mistake,” Nathaniel replied coolly.
Gregory had only demanded Evelyn apologize because Nathaniel hadn’t stopped Melanie when she’d insisted on it.
In other words, Nathaniel also believed Evelyn should apologize.
Whether Evelyn had bought the baby items because she mistakenly thought Melanie was pregnant after seeing her at the hospital, the fact remained that those items being sent to the company had caused a huge uproar and fueled the escalating rumors.
“Normally, when you see someone at a hospital, you just wonder if they’re sick. To just jump to the conclusion that they’re pregnant… Evelyn certainly has a unique way of thinking!” Melanie taunted her without mercy.
Evelyn had nothing to say, but Camilla did.
“Even if you aren’t pregnant with some other man’s child, what about that photo? Who was the man you went to the hospital with? Why were you two at the hospital together?”
Faced with Camilla’s aggressive questioning, before Melanie could explain, Gregory suddenly yelled, “That’s enough!”
