She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 187

What a farce this was.

One minute she was fine, and the next, she was suddenly pregnant with some other man's child.

Melanie glanced impassively at Evelyn.

A smug, satisfied smirk was plastered perfectly across Evelyn's face.

Without even investigating, Melanie knew Evelyn had to be behind this.

And she was right. It was indeed Evelyn's doing.

She had accidentally seen Melanie leaving a hospital with another man.

She hadn't gotten a clear look at the man's face, but it definitely wasn't Dominic.

So, she had a flash of inspiration and decided to start a rumor that Melanie was pregnant with a bastard child.

It didn't matter if Melanie was actually pregnant or not.

Once the scandal erupted, people would jump on the bandwagon, hurling insults, speculating wildly, and spinning conspiracy theories.

That was human nature.

Explosive rumors were far more eye-catching, more easily spread, and more readily believed than any retraction.

So, as long as the negative impact was made, she had won.

The most severe outcome would be Gregory and Camilla forcing Dominic to divorce Melanie to save face.

That, of course, was what Evelyn wanted most.

Even if Melanie proved she wasn't carrying another man's child, the scandal was so huge and had caused the stock prices of both the Hale Group and the Nathaniel Corporation to fall. Melanie's standing in the family and the company would plummet.

She had failed to crush Melanie at the resort, which forced her to deal with Emilia and spend a lot more money.

This time, Evelyn was determined to settle the score with Melanie.

Compared to Evelyn, who was practically rubbing her hands in glee, Melanie appeared calm and composed.

"I'm not pregnant, and there is no 'other man'... but I can't be bothered to prove it to you. If there's nothing else, I'm not wasting my time here."

Melanie shrugged nonchalantly and turned to leave.

"Stop right there!"

Nathaniel commanded. "You've really gone too far!"

"Your family certainly raised a fine daughter. She won't even listen to her own father. I wonder who she gets that personality from,"

Camilla sneered from the side.

Dominic, who had been silent for a long time, finally spoke up.

He stared at Melanie, his eyes filled with both anger and disappointment.

"Are you pregnant or not? And what's the deal with the man you went to the hospital with?"

Listening to Dominic's interrogation, Melanie glanced at Evelyn.

When Evelyn spread the rumors online, she had deliberately included a photo to make them seem more credible.

The photo showed Melanie and Preston leaving the hospital. Preston's face was blurry, but Melanie's was perfectly clear.

It was a classic case of spinning a massive lie out of a single, out-of-context photo.

Melanie sighed softly.

"I'm not falling into the trap of having to prove my own innocence. Since you all claim I'm carrying a bastard, then you can be the ones to provide the evidence. If you can't, then this is slander."

With that, Melanie turned to leave again.

Just then, a delivery person arrived at the door.

"Hello, I'm a delivery driver from Adorable Infants. I have an order of baby supplies for you."
