“Daddy, I didn’t mean to. That lady was so mean…”
“I know. It’s not Lila’s fault.”
Dominic kissed Lila’s little cheek.
He figured Lila was just scared by that horrible woman and hadn’t meant to lie.
“Lila is Daddy’s sweetest little girl, my precious treasure.”
Dominic did everything he could to soothe Lila.
He had brought her to the amusement park to make her happy.
He wouldn’t let some shrew ruin their mood.
After Dominic had calmed Lila down, Evelyn returned, and the family of three continued to enjoy the park’s evening hours.
They stayed until the amusement park closed before heading home.
At the same time, Melanie received an update from Daphne.
She had gotten plenty of the photos she wanted.
But…
The most critical part of the new anti-cancer drug development was still stuck on the humanized transgenic mice model.
As long as this problem remained unsolved, she couldn't move on to the next phase.
“I wonder if tomorrow’s seminar will give me any new ideas…”
Sitting in her office and working overtime alone, Melanie murmured to herself.
Tomorrow’s seminar was on medical innovation. She’d heard that a renowned pharmaceutical expert, who had achieved great success abroad with multiple papers published in the *Journal of Advanced Medical Sciences*, would be giving a keynote speech. This expert had recently returned to the country to become the director of Aldoria University's research institute.
“I wonder what the new director is like…”
Melanie’s eyes were filled with anticipation.
She had been so busy with the new drug research that she hadn't had time to read any papers. It was Elias who had told her that this expert’s work was highly regarded in the industry.
Melanie worked at the company until morning before heading back to Rosevale Heights.
By that time, Preston had already left for work.
Dominic sat down next to Melanie.
“You know, Melanie, yesterday Dominic took me and Lila to the new amusement park,” Evelyn said, deliberately bringing it up.
Of course Melanie knew.
It had been her suggestion.
But she could tell Dominic hadn’t told Evelyn the truth.
Seeing Melanie just smile without saying a word, Evelyn sat down next to Dominic and shot Melanie a condescending glance.
*Still trying to act so detached and innocent, are you?*
*I bet she’s green with envy inside.*
The seminar began, and the first to speak was the newly appointed director of the Aldoria University research institute.
As the speaker walked briskly to the stage, Dominic’s expression changed dramatically.
“What is *she* doing here?”
