She was wearing this new dress for the first time today, and now it was covered in ice cream.
Considering the other party was just a child, she bit back her anger. But she never expected the kid to get so brazen.
“Your daughter got ice cream all over me, and before I can even ask what you’re going to do about it, you start questioning me?”
As soon as Hazel spoke, Dominic could tell she was not someone to be trifled with.
He glanced at Lila, who was a mess of snot and tears.
“I didn’t!” Lila yelled. “This lady bumped into me first.”
Seeing how confidently Lila spoke, Dominic believed her without question.
“You’re a grown woman. Bumping into a child is bad enough, but you won’t even admit it. It’s just an ice cream cone, how much could it cost? And you won’t even offer to pay for it!”
Hazel was so angry she rolled her eyes.
“I see now, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. It’s because of a father like you, who can’t tell right from wrong, that your daughter is already learning to lie at such a young age…”
“I wasn’t going to make a big deal out of this, but now I can’t just let it go… Let’s go! Pull the security footage!”
When he heard her mention security footage, Dominic felt Lila shrink into his arms in a panic, no longer yelling.
Dominic was an adult, after all. Lila’s instinctive reaction told him that she was the one who had been lying.
But he had already said his piece and couldn’t take it back.
“Is something this minor really worth pulling security footage for? I have a child with me, I don’t have time to argue with you. You don’t have to pay for the ice cream. You should just watch yourself!”
Dominic held Lila and turned to leave.
“Wait a minute!”
Hazel stopped him.
“I’ve never met a parent as shameless as you! Why so cowardly all of a sudden? Weren’t you acting all tough just a moment ago?”
Faced with Hazel’s accusation, Dominic remained silent.
“Let me tell you, this dress is a limited edition. It costs one hundred and eighty thousand dollars. You’ll let me off the hook for the ice cream? I think you need to pay for my dress!”
Just as she was about to drag Dominic to the park’s security office to review the footage, her phone suddenly rang.
“…Okay, okay… I understand. I’ll be right there.”
Seeing that she had an urgent matter to attend to, Dominic secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Hazel did have an emergency. Something had come up at her research institute that required her attention.
If she didn't resolve it immediately, she was afraid it would affect tomorrow's seminar.
“You two better hope I never see you again!”
With no time to argue with Dominic, Hazel could only chalk it up to bad luck. She stormed off after delivering that final threat.
Once Hazel was gone, Dominic relaxed his tense shoulders and patted Lila’s head.
“Lila, you can’t lie anymore, you understand?”
“Mhm…” Lila nodded vigorously.
