“Dad’s right. What I did today was wrong. I promise I’ll never do it again and will focus on my studies,” Aria said, wiping her tears with a docile smile, as if nothing had happened.
Sabrina stood beside her, fuming with resentment.
But since Aria had already returned the appointment letter and share transfer agreement to Nathaniel, what more could she say?
Melanie noticed that Preston’s brow was slightly furrowed in thought, as if he were analyzing Aria's actions.
In reality, she was long accustomed to Aria’s performances.
No matter how big the mistake, Aria could always minimize the damage and smooth things over.
It was as entertaining as watching a play. Melanie felt that this trip home hadn't been a waste.
Most importantly, she had gotten her mother’s research materials.
Seeing that no one was mentioning the files, Melanie quietly slipped them into her handbag.
“Sir, I need Melanie to come back to the company to discuss the project, so I’ll be taking her with me now,” Preston said at the opportune moment, placing something on the table in front of Nathaniel.
“This is a gift for you.”
Nathaniel glanced down at it, his expression still unsmiling.
“I’m not your father. Why are you giving me a gift?”
Since the Royce family's dinner tonight was an early Father’s Day celebration, Nathaniel naturally assumed Preston's gift was for Father's Day.
Melanie thought so too, and her eyes widened in surprise when Preston took out the gift.
“You misunderstand, sir,” Preston said, his composure absolute, exuding an unshakeable sense of calm.
“This is a token of my apology for taking Melanie away and interrupting your family dinner.”
Nathaniel couldn't find a single flaw in his words.
Moreover, Preston's commanding presence left absolutely no room for refusal.
“Since it’s an apology, I’ll accept it.”
Preston gave Nathaniel a slight smile.
He rarely smiled.
When he did, it gave him a very gentlemanly and cultured air.
And so, Melanie left Crescent Ridge Estate with Preston.
Preston’s handsome face, so close to hers, remained perfectly serious. He didn't look like he was joking with her.
So, had he come all the way to her father's house to find her for something important or not?
He couldn’t have done it all just to give her dad a gift, could he?
“Speaking of which… what did you give my dad as an apology gift?”
At Melanie's question, Preston looked at her, a light in his eyes.
“Your father should like it.”
He had, after all, chosen it carefully. It was the first gift for his future father-in-law.

Back at Crescent Ridge Estate.
“Dad, aren’t you going to see what that Mr. Whitmore gave you?” Aria asked with a curious look on her face.
Nathaniel hesitated for a moment, but then opened the gift box from Preston in front of Sabrina and Aria.
