After listening to Victor Merrow and Jared Thorne, Nathaniel looked at Aria, who was so guilt-ridden she couldn’t even lift her head.
Her reaction said it all.
Besides, as pharmaceutical experts and competition judges, there was no reason for them to lie.
Nathaniel's expression grew increasingly severe.
*Smack!*
He suddenly slammed his hand on the table, making Aria and Sabrina jump in fright.
“Explain yourself! What is going on?!”
The atmosphere in the living room turned frigid in an instant.
Melanie, however, couldn't help but smirk, looking as if she were enjoying a good show.
Aria had faked her award certificate—
That was something she truly hadn't expected.
As she remembered it, Aria wasn’t a bad student. Although she had barely scraped by to get into Cyranth University, she had at least done it on her own merit.
“I-I’m sorry, Dad…” Aria began, her voice trembling with a pitiful sob. “I was so well-prepared, and the department had high hopes for me. I should have been able to win first prize. But… but…”
The more she spoke, the quieter and less confident her voice became.
“But right before the competition, all the theories I had memorized suddenly changed…”
Hearing this, Melanie suddenly realized it was her, as Schrödinger's Pill, who had proposed the new insights that made the theories Aria had memorized obsolete.
“If it weren't for that, I wouldn’t have missed out on first prize…”
Looking at Aria's pitiful act, Melanie couldn't resist a sarcastic comment, “Wow, so getting a participation award is what you call ‘narrowly missing first prize’?”
At her words, the expressions on Nathaniel, Sabrina, and Aria’s faces soured. Only Preston showed his support, letting out an audible laugh.
“Melanie, how can you slander Aria like that!” Sabrina shot a glare at Melanie, but Aria tugged on her arm.
“Mom, Melanie is right. I shouldn't have asked for these shares or this position…”
“Aria, what are you saying!” Sabrina whispered, frantically signaling to Aria with her eyes.
She had moved heaven and earth to get that position and those five percent of shares from Nathaniel. How could Aria just give them up!
However, Aria gestured for Sabrina not to argue.
At a time like this, it was crucial to hold back and not fight.
“Dad, here are the shares and the appointment letter… I’m returning them to you…”
Nathaniel took the documents from Aria's hand. Though his face remained stern, a hint of approval for Aria appeared in his eyes.
“Aria, I appreciate your maturity... You’re not mature enough yet, so it’s a bit early for you to accept company shares and a position. I think you should focus on finishing your degree and getting more experience first.”
