Spencer paused for a moment, and surprised murmurs rippled through the onlookers.
The most surprised person of all, however, was Evelyn.
Although Dominic and Melanie hadn’t married in secret, it wasn't exactly public knowledge. At least, Dominic had never so publicly claimed Melanie as his wife before.

In the VIP lounge, Preston stared at the large screen displaying a live feed from the banquet hall.
When he saw Dominic’s arm go around Melanie’s shoulder, the stem of the wine glass in his hand snapped.
Beside him, Gabriel fanned the air with his hand. The jealousy radiating from his brother was practically suffocating. “Bro, what’s the point of sulking up here? Just go down there and tell Ms. Royce how you feel!”
“Who said I was sulking?”
Seeing Preston’s denial, Gabriel cast a sympathetic look at the broken wine glass.
“And besides…” Preston’s thin, elegant lips parted, but he hesitated. His gloved right hand unconsciously clenched into a fist, fingers rubbing against the silk. “It’s not time yet…”

In the banquet hall, in front of everyone, Melanie calmly removed Dominic’s hand from her shoulder.
As much as she enjoyed seeing Evelyn flustered, she disliked Dominic touching her even more.
“I had no idea Mr. Hale’s wife was such a stunning beauty,” Spencer remarked. “It’s a shame you left her all alone here, Mr. Hale.”
Dominic’s face flushed with embarrassment. “I was just…”
“It’s because I wasn’t my husband’s date tonight!” Melanie interjected.
“I came here alone hoping to talk business with you, Mr. Halevy. I don’t even have an invitation!” she said, then gestured toward Evelyn. “My husband only had one invitation, which meant he could only bring one guest. He chose Ms. Evelyn here. She’s my husband’s sister.”
On the surface, Melanie was politely introducing Evelyn to Spencer. But the implication was clear: the relationship between Evelyn and her husband was anything but ordinary.
The gossip mill started turning among the onlookers.
“He brought his sister to a banquet instead of his own wife…”
