She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 287

A man and a woman, alone in a room together—even if it was a hospital suite, it was hard not to let one’s imagination run wild.

At least, Dominic wasn’t that broad-minded.

If Preston were just some escort, it would have been better.

Just as Gregory Hale had once advised him, Melanie was the daughter of a wealthy family before her marriage. Even if she had played around with a few escorts, it wasn’t a big deal.

After all, for escorts, selling their looks to please clients was their job.

However…

Preston wasn’t an escort.

That made him just like Bryant—someone using work as a cover to become a homewrecker.

As a man, Dominic would never allow his wife to cheat on him so openly.

If Melanie had really spent a night with Preston in that suite, Dominic would have found it hard to believe in her innocence, even if nothing had happened.

But now, it seemed Melanie understood propriety and knew her place. She understood that as a married woman, she shouldn’t be alone with another man.

Melanie was oblivious to all of Dominic’s convoluted thoughts.

She could see he was in a good mood, but she just assumed it was because both Evelyn and Lila had been discharged.

She couldn’t be bothered to think about any other reasons; they had nothing to do with her.

Last night, she and Preston had stayed in the same hospital suite.

They already lived under the same roof, so sharing a suite didn’t make either of them feel awkward.

In fact, they were both very used to it, very natural.

There was only one bed in the suite.

Preston let Melanie have it, while he slept on a folding cot.

They made do like that for the night.

In truth, Preston didn’t need to subject himself to such discomfort at the hospital.

Melanie knew perfectly well that Preston was there for her.

He stayed with her because he liked her.

It wasn't until someone called Preston in the morning that he had to leave.

Dominic had originally wanted to take Melanie, Lila, and Evelyn out to eat and celebrate, but Evelyn said she wasn’t feeling well and wanted to go home and rest.

“Evelyn and Lila just recovered from being sick. They should get some proper rest. You should take them home.”

Or was it that Melanie didn't care about him at all?

Even after dropping Evelyn and Lila off at home, Dominic remained absent-minded and distracted.

Evelyn knew exactly what was on his mind: Melanie.

He wanted to go to the office to find Melanie.

“Lila and I will be fine. We just want to take a nap at home. You should go to the office.”

As soon as Evelyn finished speaking, Lila, who was beside her, tried to protest, but was silenced by a look from her mother.

Hearing Evelyn’s words, Dominic’s entire face lit up.

“Then you and Lila get some good rest. I won’t disturb you. I’m heading to the office now, but I’ll be back soon. Call me if you need anything.”

With that, Dominic grabbed his car keys and left the house.

The door slammed shut with a thud.

Lila asked Evelyn pitifully, “Mommy, why did you let Daddy go? I wanted him to stay with me…”

By now, Evelyn had dropped her fake smile. She took Lila’s small hand and said seriously,

“Because Mommy has something she wants to talk to you about, just the two of us.”
