Evelyn’s hand trembled, and her phone clattered to the floor, startling Lila.
Lila’s already pale face grew even more terrified.
“Mommy… Do you think… Do you think Elina will tell her dad that I pushed her off the ship?”
“Shh!”
Evelyn gestured for Lila to be quiet, then immediately picked up her phone and deleted the recent conversation from her chat history.
At this point, since she had already started, she had no choice but to see it through to the end.
Evelyn’s eyes burned with a malevolent fire.
“It’s not your fault, Lila…”
And it wasn’t her fault either, of course.
Melanie and Dominic had forced her hand!
“Your aunt was the one who tried to harm you first… Besides, Elina is just a child. Who would take the word of a child seriously?” Evelyn muttered to Lila as if talking to herself, then held out her arms.
Lila immediately rushed into Evelyn’s embrace, and mother and daughter held each other tightly.
They were mother and daughter, bound by blood.
What was Melanie?
Just an outsider.
The accident had already ruined what was supposed to be a happy birthday celebration, forcing the cruise ship to dock early and leaving all the guests disappointed.
Then, as if to prove that when it rains, it pours, just as the ship was about to reach the shore, a fire alarm suddenly blared through the vessel.
Dominic and Evelyn burst out of their cabins at almost the same time.
Their eyes met instinctively. Without a word, Dominic scooped up Lila with one arm, grabbed Evelyn with the other, and started running.
Although the ship’s crew was doing their best to evacuate the guests in an orderly fashion, in a life-or-death situation like a fire, human instinct is to get away from the danger faster than anyone else.
Dominic was a prime example.
He bolted with Evelyn and Lila, completely ignoring the crew’s instructions.
“Wait, what about Melanie?”
