Rosevale Heights.
When Melanie placed two steaming bowls of beef noodles on the dining table, she saw a knowing smile appear on Preston's usually stern face.
"You like beef noodles that much?"
She really didn't think such a simple, almost crude, home-cooked meal was enough to repay Preston for saving her life.
Back at the Stellaris PharmaTech branch office, Preston had said he was hungry but didn't want to eat out. He only wanted a meal cooked by Melanie herself.
For Melanie, that was a piece of cake.
She had been ready to go on a major grocery run at the supermarket and show off her skills by preparing a lavish multi-course meal.
But in the end, the only thing Preston requested was beef noodles.
As was customary, Melanie also handed Preston a lychee-flavored soda.
It wasn't that she disliked the combination of beef noodles and lychee soda.
In fact, it was her personal favorite.
She just felt that treating Preston to such a meal seemed a bit too casual.
Preston could naturally tell what Melanie was thinking.
"I like beef noodles and lychee soda… especially when you make them."
Melanie didn't know whether to be amused or annoyed.
"If you say so!"
She sat down across from Preston, the two of them eating the exact same noodles and drinking the exact same beverage.
Melanie didn't actually think her cooking was all that great, and she rarely made particularly complicated dishes.
She figured that when it came to simple home cooking, anyone with hands could do it.
Like this unremarkable bowl of beef noodles.
It wasn't as if Melanie had never eaten her own cooking before; in fact, the more she ate it, the less impressive it seemed.
But at this moment, sitting face-to-face with Preston, she inexplicably felt that the beef noodles had become exceptionally delicious.
Was this what they meant when they said someone was good enough to eat??
Melanie was amused by her own thought.
"What is it? Is there something on my face?"
Preston subconsciously touched his own face.
Melanie was staring at his face and smiling, and he wasn't sure if there was something funny on it.
