In a daze, he saw Melanie instead of Evelyn before him.
Though Melanie and Evelyn looked nothing alike—Melanie was far more beautiful—Dominic was overcome with the strange illusion that the woman in front of him was not Evelyn.
It was Melanie.
On the night of the Valentine's, he was supposed to be with Melanie.
He didn't want to admit to himself that he had called Evelyn only because she was convenient, someone he could summon and dismiss at will.
But in reality, that's all she was: a substitute for Melanie.
Evelyn had expected they would first enjoy some romance, drink some wine and champagne, and indulge in some playful flirting before moving on to the next step.
But before she could even say a few words, Dominic swept her up and tossed her onto the large bed without another word.
In Evelyn’s memory, this was the first time Dominic had ever been so impatient.
As the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. She interpreted his urgency as proof that he couldn't stand their silent treatment and wanted to make up with her.
Does he love me that much?
Evelyn’s face glowed with pleasure.
She had always been extremely confident in her looks and figure.
Nothing a little makeup sex couldn't fix, as they say. Evelyn was sure Dominic would once again be captivated by her charms.
However…
Dominic covered her face with his suit jacket.
Finally unable to see Evelyn's face, Dominic breathed a sigh of relief.
Melanie’s face appeared in his mind—beautiful, radiant, and sparkling like a jewel.
Dominic suddenly felt that Melanie had been growing more and more beautiful recently, as if she were the most beautiful woman in the world.
Melanie…
He couldn't help but call her name in his mind.
Melanie was his wife…
An indescribable sense of pride and possession washed over him.
Dominic closed his eyes.
