She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 316

Eclipse Noir Club.

“So that’s what happened, Daphne. But I don’t have any proof… or even enough leads.”

Daphne’s brow furrowed, her expression turning serious as she listened to Melanie’s story.

“So, you’re telling me… you were almost burned alive in the medical bay of a cruise ship… and I knew absolutely nothing about it?”

A muscle in Melanie’s jaw twitched.

Oh no.

Daphne was pissed.

“I’m sorry, Daphne. I didn’t want you to worry, so I didn’t tell you…”

The main reason was that she hadn’t been injured. The two days she spent in the hospital were only because she had been unconscious for a while before waking up.

“Do you even consider me your best friend?”

Daphne grabbed Melanie by the collar as if she was about to give her a beating.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I was wrong…” Melanie immediately apologized, her voice meek.

She knew, of course, that Daphne would never actually hurt her.

As expected, Daphne quickly let her go, then threw back two glasses of vodka in quick succession.

“Daphne, what are you doing? You’ll ruin your stomach.” Melanie quickly pressed down on the glass, stopping Daphne from drinking more.

“When you were going through something so huge, not only was I no help, I didn’t even know about it. I deserve to be punished.”

“Alright, alright, I know you’re a glutton for punishment, but don’t do it with alcohol. How about you call out the hottest dancer in your club to give me a private show?”

Daphne shrugged and smiled.

“As if you’d even look twice at the dancers in my club anymore! The knights in shining armor around you are getting more handsome by the day, especially that Preston…”

Thinking of Preston’s devastatingly handsome face, Daphne couldn’t help but swoon.

“I really wish he was short on cash. Then I could offer him a high price to work here part-time. Ah, what a shame.”

Melanie couldn’t help but laugh.

With Preston’s looks, if he really were a dancer, he’d be the absolute top act.

“The cruise ship Melanie was on… I want you to find out how the fire started. Was it an accident?”

Philip immediately understood Preston’s command.

What Preston really wanted to know… was whether someone was secretly trying to harm Melanie.

“I understand, Mr. Whitmore.”

The Hale Health Center.

Dominic paced restlessly in his office.

He had been waiting for Melanie all morning.

He clutched his phone, his palm sweating, alternating between wanting to call her and forcing himself to wait patiently.

This was a critical moment for the development of the new cancer drug. What if Melanie’s absence was work-related, for the sake of the project? Calling her would make it seem like he didn’t trust or respect her.

So, after a morning of hesitation and anxiety, Dominic still couldn’t bring himself to make the call.
