Evelyn was rubbing her hands together, radiating confidence.
Melanie had walked into the convention center with Dominic and Evelyn. Although Melanie was an invited representative of the Hale Group, at a seminar hosted by the Crowell Group, she wasn't going to be given a platform to speak. As a result, her seat was far in the back.
Dominic and Evelyn were given even more of a cold shoulder. They weren't even technically invited, only allowed in because they had pulled some strings.
The event was called a seminar, but the convention center was set up more like a cocktail party, with all the guests dressed to the nines.
Dominic, as usual, was in a suit and tie—a brand-new one for the occasion. In terms of industry standing, the Hale Group was far behind the Crowell Group, but the more that was true, the more Dominic didn't want to be looked down upon.
Evelyn was also dressed ostentatiously. She had sold off most of her valuable jewelry for cash, but she had kept a few pieces, and she wore them all tonight. To grab the attention of the Crowell Group and Quanterra Biolabs, she even wore a long, trailing evening gown in bright red.
Melanie didn’t quite understand why Dominic and Evelyn were so dressed up. But when she entered the venue, she realized the host, the Crowell Group, seemed to have a taste for opulent atmospheres. The seminar was decorated like a lavish banquet.
Today, she was wearing standard business attire—a white blouse with a dark gray women's suit. Standing among the women dripping with jewels, she looked completely out of place.
“Well, well, if it isn’t Mr. Hale of the Hale Health Center!”
Melanie, Dominic, and Evelyn all looked up at the sound of the voice. Leonard Crowell was standing beside their table, holding a wine glass.
