She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 36

“Melanie, your family and our Hale family have known each other for generations. After you married into our family, we’ve treated you well. How dare you cheat on my son behind our backs!”

Camilla punctuated her shouts by smacking a cane against her palm, looking as if she were about to teach Melanie a serious lesson.

Dominic glanced at the photo on his mother’s phone.

It was the one Evelyn had posted in the group chat earlier today.

“Mom, this photo doesn’t really prove anything…”

“You’re still defending her at a time like this? I think she’s been completely spoiled by you!”

Scolded, Dominic lowered his head deeply.

Melanie scoffed internally at his act of defending his wife.

What a performance.

She almost believed him.

Then again, maybe it wasn't an act.

Dominic was only defending her because his company needed her.

“Dominic has a point. It’s just a photo of them having a meal. Is it really worth making such a big deal out of it?”

Gregory, who had been silent for a long time, finally spoke. His voice was both gentle, like a kind father's, and carried the authority of a company CEO.

“That’s right, Mom. Melanie was just having dinner with a client.”

“You shut up!”

Camilla struck the bamboo cane in her hand forcefully.

Evelyn fumed on the sidelines.

She had finally caught Melanie red-handed, so why was Dominic so determined to defend her?

She knew that both Dominic and Gregory were terrified of anything jeopardizing their partnership with Nathaniel, but that didn't mean they had to defend Melanie this much.

“Mom, see? Dad and my brother both think Melanie did nothing wrong. Maybe you really did misunderstand her! My sister-in-law is a different person now, capable of handling projects on her own. The man in this photo is the CEO of the Halevy Group.”

“Handling a project? Who discusses projects in a high-end hotel instead of a company conference room?”

Camilla rolled her eyes dramatically.

“Melanie! Start talking, or I’ll give you a reason to be afraid of this cane.”

Camilla raised her hand, feigning a strike at Melanie.

“In any case, the result is what matters most… Mr. Halevy has agreed to partner with us.”

“Really?”

Dominic was both shocked and overjoyed.

Although Gregory didn't react as strongly as Dominic, his eyes visibly lit up when he saw the contract.

Sensing the tide turning, Evelyn immediately chimed in.

“Who knows how you managed to get that contract signed? You probably slept with him to get it!”

“Enough!”

Gregory's roar made Evelyn flinch.

“Melanie has been working tirelessly for Dominic’s new company. We’ve been trying to land a deal with the Halevy Group for so long without success, yet Melanie managed to secure it on her first try…”

As he spoke, Gregory handed the contract to Dominic.

Dominic flipped through a few pages, his delight impossible to hide.

At the same time, however, he couldn't help but wonder if Evelyn was right—if Melanie had indeed slept her way into this contract.
