It just seemed too easy.
Spencer had always been so unreceptive before, so why would he suddenly agree to a deal with Melanie?
As Dominic mulled it over, he glanced at his father and saw Gregory give him a subtle shake of the head.
“Dad is truly wise and fair… Of course, I’m sure Evelyn wasn’t targeting me, either.”
Melanie offered Evelyn a friendly, fake smile.
“However, if Mom had listened to Evelyn today, she would have wrongly accused an innocent person… I seem to recall there’s a rule in the Hale family… for sowing discord and stirring up trouble… doesn’t that warrant a slap on the hand?”
Melanie’s gaze suddenly shifted to Camilla, who immediately turned to look at Gregory.
Gregory’s face instantly darkened.
“Melanie is right. This whole mess is your fault. If your mother hadn't called me back, who knows how badly you would have bullied Melanie!”
Upon hearing Gregory’s words, Camilla immediately swung the bamboo cane in her hand, striking Evelyn on the rear.
Evelyn shrieked.
“Mom!”
Dominic cried out, but the next second, his eyes met Melanie’s.
Evelyn was indeed in the wrong today. No one else could have sent that photo to his mother.
Realizing this, Dominic fell silent.
Seeing that even Dominic wouldn't speak up for her, Evelyn’s eyes instantly filled with tears.
“Dominic…”
Her voice trembled, a picture of pitifulness.
“Don’t you dare call for your brother. He almost misunderstood Melanie today because of you.”
Camilla kept hitting Evelyn relentlessly. After all, Evelyn wasn't her biological daughter.
Evelyn knew perfectly well that Camilla was using her as a punching bag.
Since Camilla couldn't assert her dominance over Melanie, she was taking all her frustration out on her.
“Grandma, don’t hit Mommy… don’t hit Mommy…”
Seeing Evelyn being hit, Lila burst into tears.
“Auntie is bad! It’s all your fault… Uncle, please help Mommy…”
Dominic had initially wanted Evelyn to learn her lesson, to at least not provoke Melanie until she was no longer useful.
But he couldn't stand seeing Lila's tears.
