Evelyn was left speechless by Melanie’s rebuttal and raised her hand to slap her.
Melanie didn’t give her the chance, grabbing Evelyn’s wrist in a vise-like grip.
“Dominic…” Evelyn turned and cried out to Dominic.
Even though he was furious, Dominic still walked over and said to Melanie, “Let Evelyn go. Everyone’s watching.”
Melanie glanced at Dominic.
“Everyone was watching a moment ago when Evelyn tried to hit me, too…”
Dominic’s expression changed. Melanie flashed a grin and released her grip. “But I’ll be the bigger person and not stoop to her level.”
Just as Evelyn was about to retort, Dominic shot her a warning look. He then turned to Melanie and said, “It’s good you’re here. My father wanted to see you anyway…”
That didn’t sound like good news.
Melanie saw Gregory walk into the conference room.
“My father is waiting for you in the conference room. You should go in.”
As she entered the conference room, Melanie caught a glimpse of Evelyn and Dominic exchanging glances.

Night fell, and the city bid farewell to the daytime clamor.
At the Eclipse Noir Club, Daphne looked at the empty bottles of lychee-flavored soda lining the table in front of Melanie and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Girl, you’re supposed to drown your sorrows in alcohol… How are you going to drown anything if you don’t drink?”
Daphne could tell Melanie was in a bad mood tonight, most likely because of that jerk Dominic. But she didn’t ask, not wanting to rub salt in the wound.
“Five more bottles of lychee soda,” Melanie said, rubbing her stomach, feeling like she could drink more.
She had sorrows to drown, but she couldn’t drink alcohol. She had to stay sharp.
Daphne, while signaling a waiter to get the sodas, asked Melanie, “How about I just buy you five pounds of lychees, and you can sit here and eat them slowly?”
“That works,” Melanie agreed instantly. “But you have to peel them for me.”
“You’re more high-maintenance than an ancient empress.”
Daphne’s teasing lightened Melanie’s mood considerably.
Originally, she had planned to use Evelyn’s foolishness and ambition to embroil the Hale Group in a lawsuit with the Luminaria Aesthetic Institute.
However, that afternoon in the conference room, Gregory had ordered her to clean up Evelyn’s mess.
