The night grew darker.
The sparklers were all gone.
Melanie had just thrown away the trash and was about to head back to her complex.
Suddenly, something in the sky exploded with a bang.
Colorful fireworks lit up her vision without any warning.
Melanie was stunned.
Who would have thought that just after she finished with her sparklers, a spectacular, grand fireworks show would begin hundreds of feet up in the sky?
“What day is it today?”
Melanie took out her phone and searched but couldn't find anything.
It wasn't a holiday, there was no festival, and she couldn't find any official announcements.
Melanie even asked her AI if it was some celebrity's or anime character's birthday. It wasn't.
While admiring the fireworks, Melanie called Daphne.
“Daphne, do you think… these fireworks could have been set off just for me? How else could it be such a coincidence, happening right when I wanted to celebrate?”
“My dear, while you have every right to be narcissistic, please don’t be *that* narcissistic, okay?”
Melanie couldn't help but laugh.
“I’m just dreaming a little. What’s wrong with that?”
She remembered one year during the holidays, Dominic had bought a ton of big fireworks, saying they were just for her. In the end, he set them off at a class reunion.
Back then, she was still Dominic’s fiancée, their marriage arranged since childhood.
All her classmates envied her for being so pampered by Dominic.
She herself had felt incredibly special.
But thinking back now, Evelyn had been there too.
Those big fireworks were probably meant for Evelyn.
And she had just been a convenient cover.
A chill settled over her eyes as she gazed at the fireworks, and her heart felt as if it had frozen over. She couldn't feel any pain.
