She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 44

The night grew darker.

The sparklers were all gone.

Melanie had just thrown away the trash and was about to head back to her complex.

Suddenly, something in the sky exploded with a bang.

Colorful fireworks lit up her vision without any warning.

Melanie was stunned.

Who would have thought that just after she finished with her sparklers, a spectacular, grand fireworks show would begin hundreds of feet up in the sky?

“What day is it today?”

Melanie took out her phone and searched but couldn't find anything.

It wasn't a holiday, there was no festival, and she couldn't find any official announcements.

Melanie even asked her AI if it was some celebrity's or anime character's birthday. It wasn't.

While admiring the fireworks, Melanie called Daphne.

“Daphne, do you think… these fireworks could have been set off just for me? How else could it be such a coincidence, happening right when I wanted to celebrate?”

“My dear, while you have every right to be narcissistic, please don’t be *that* narcissistic, okay?”

Melanie couldn't help but laugh.

“I’m just dreaming a little. What’s wrong with that?”

She remembered one year during the holidays, Dominic had bought a ton of big fireworks, saying they were just for her. In the end, he set them off at a class reunion.

Back then, she was still Dominic’s fiancée, their marriage arranged since childhood.

All her classmates envied her for being so pampered by Dominic.

She herself had felt incredibly special.

But thinking back now, Evelyn had been there too.

Those big fireworks were probably meant for Evelyn.

And she had just been a convenient cover.

A chill settled over her eyes as she gazed at the fireworks, and her heart felt as if it had frozen over. She couldn't feel any pain.

“I was only doing it for the company! How was I supposed to know Luminaria would find out the data was fake?” Evelyn cried tearfully.

Standing before her was not only a grim-faced Dominic but also Gregory.

If the situation hadn't been severe, Gregory would not have come to handle it personally.

As Evelyn was crying and complaining, her eyes caught sight of Melanie standing at the office entrance.

“Melanie!”

Evelyn shot to her feet.

All the employees in the office turned to look at Melanie in unison.

“It’s all your fault! You set me up!” Evelyn strode toward Melanie, her voice hoarse from shouting.

“You still have the nerve to show up? If you hadn’t told me that Luminaria required us to provide data proving cell-level efficacy, the company wouldn’t be in this mess right now!”

Faced with Evelyn’s aggressive accusations, Melanie laughed instead of getting angry.

“Ms. Hale, what a masterful job of turning the tables and getting desperate. When I handed over the project to you, of course I had to clarify the client’s requirements. But I never told you to forge data and trial reports. You were the one who was arrogant, overeager for success, and went behind your superiors' backs to commit fraud. That’s what destroyed the company’s reputation and led to a lawsuit… What does that have to do with me?”
